connecting tach to 3rd gen (which wire on engine?)

There is a guy who owns a 3rd gen Protege who is emailing me and asking about connecting a tach to a 3rd gen protege. Would anyone who knows how to do this , please post a response on which wire to connect the tach to or a photo also... I will point him to this page so that he can see the results ..
Please post fot the 1.6 , 1.8 and 2.0 ... as I don't know which motor he has

If I remember right, it's the purple wire with the white stripe that leads to the diagnostic connector at the rear driver's side corner of the engine compartment (assuming his car is LHD). This should be the same for all U.S. and Canadian G3 Proteges. Also, please note that I'm NOT talking about the OBDII connector, which is located under the dash.

the signal is a multipulse signal and a cheap tach won't work correctly on it. you will have to buy a tach adapter or buy a tach that can be calibrated differently. also if you call goto www.autometer.com they have instructions for the protege.

i believe you can get a tach signal off of the CAS.
