you live a few days from me? I bet I could be at your front door in 13 hours if I pushed it.

p.s. I've been known to travel the country to hang out with my car buddies. Texas, Pennsylvania, California, Chicago, Florida, etc....I'm hoping to drive cross country this year....maybe next.

Here's my two cents on the cold air intake thing: it's a cost effective way to make power, and it would be a mistake to not do it. I have had two sport compacts over the past four years(including my P5), and in each case putting in an intake was one of the first things I did. The P5 has a short ram, but my previous car had a CAI. That CAI was low to the ground, but as long as you don't submerge the filter, it won't suck up any water (unless there is a lot of vaccuum, i.e. no way for air to get around the water). Splashing the filter won't result in hyrolocking the engine. If you get the AEM bypass valve, it's just a collar with little rubber flaps that open if the vaccuum in the intake becomes too great when the filter becomes submerged.

the AEM bypass will negate any gain you get from a CAI..its already been proven on dyno tests

yup yup macdaddy....thats why I think it's rediculous. I did see a video of a turbo MR2 with an AEM bypass on it where they completely submerged the intake to see what would happen....pretty cool looking and saved the motor, but your right. By putting the valve in there they lost power.

I say just put in the intake, and avoid deep puddles. Nothing ventured, nothing gained!

Well, I have a friend on www.honda-acura.net who hydrolocked his civic and ruined the entire engine but his insurance paid for everything and he now has a turbocharged GSR engine in his civic. It turned out to be a blessing and now look at his car.

Look at these too:

not to change the subject or anything, but i just finished installing a CAI on my 02 P5. Probably the best damn thing that i did to my car.. i bought one of the those cheap ones from ebay, BOMZ racing i think it was called and installed it. awesome sound and rpm does pickup faster. I really haven't stated doing anything yet, but more of this mods are on their way, i would recoomend anyone to do this simple mod. I will be buying a K&N filter here shortly, (just not too sure how the cheap air filter is).

I would be hesitant in putting an oiled filter on your car. Paper filters are just as good, cheaper and require no cleaning kits at an extra charge.

I just run the filter that came with my $38 SRI off ebay. It's the exact same as the paper cone filters from autozone. They have a LOT of surface area, the front is open to allow more airflow and they are only like $15 when it comes time to replace it.
