Cleaning the InJen CAI Filter

How often do I need to clean the filter that came with my 2.0l injen CAI? And what do I use to do it?

hmmm

I was thinkin every other oil change but thats just me. Its really dusty here so im thinking of doing it more frequently than i probably should. K&N makes a kit especially for cleaning air filters. The K&N filter i have has some kind of oil on it (as does the Injen filter) so i would recommend getting the air filter oil as well; the oil helps in the filtering process. And without it u could be sucking in more dirt, crap, etc.

Before you go spraying K&N filtercleaner/oil on your Injen filter...I would suggest emailing Injen directly....this way you can be sure about what you do.....What makes you so sure that Injens filter has oil on it????

i emailed injen

I emailed Injen Tech Support, and they said to clean it with
the K&N kit.

The Injen filter comes shipped with oil already applied. I know
this because I assumed it didn't, and I applied K&N oil before
installation. Then, my car was dripping red oil off the filter for a
week because it was over-oiled.

I cleaned it after about 3000 miles. After spraying the cleaner
on the filter and rinsing it, the color changed from red to light
pink, indicating that the red oil had been washed away. (Another
piece of evidence in support of the Injen filter coming from the
factory pre-oiled.)

After cleaning and reinstalling, I took the opportunity to read
the K&N cleaner kit box. It said to clean your filter every 100,000
miles, or a little more often if you drive in dusty conditions. It
said that the trapped dust actually makes the filter more effective.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

I noticed that the injen filter was oiled when i first installed it and later when i was replacing it with my K&N filter.

Info from Injen tech
We recommend cleaning the air filter every 10,000 to 15,000 miles with a filter cleaning solution like K&N's filter recharge kit.

I bought a AIC for my 2002 Protege 5 2.0L and was wondering what maintenance requirements the filter needs?
