Question Borla Pro XS

I finally decided on an Exhaust. I want to get this borla Pro XS muffler and have a shop hook me up with a custom install.

http://www.borla.com/proxs/pages/muf...24.167.101.205

Im looking at getting the 2.25 inlet/outlet muffler and 2.25 piping. Does this sound good? Im looking at 120 for the muffler and 200-250 for the rest.

2.25 is too large of pipe for the car. You need to run 2". Using the larger pipe will reduce too much back pressure, thus decreasing your HP. Got this from a Borla Tech.

The stock pipe is 2", why would you not want to go larger??2.25" is a good size.

Sorry, but that's not true. You want some back pressure. Why don't you call Borla.

Ok.. the backpressure thing is a myth. This has been discussed many times... and thanks to Jesse... i've got some info I can post on this.

These are some examples of what the exhaust systems are like... These are borrowed from http://www.team-integra.net and posted on my server as not to waste their bandwidth.

This image here shows what the stock exhaust system flows like... there's backpressure (restriction) which you don't want. What you want to do is upgrade your inside diameter, as to get a better flow. As you can see, the 'waves' get closer together at the end, which is what causes the back pressure.

This image here shows what the flow looks like with a 2.25" ID, which is what you want... As you can see, the 'waves' are evenly spaced, because they can flow correctly due to there being no restriction.

This is what happens when you get a pipe that's too big (3") for a NA motor. The 'waves' bounce in different directions, causing a shitty flow. So... 2.25 is the perfect size, and backpressure is There...

did anyone read the article SCC did on making custom exhausts? I'm sure TheMAN did!! It was great. You guys should try to get back issues from them just for that article. www.sportcompactcarweb.com

No offense, but why don't you call that Borla tech back and ask him why his company produces a custom application cat-back exhaust for the Protege with 2.25" piping if that's too large a diameter for the car?
