Thanks
I'd get it from Protege5online, he seems to be the cheapest. Also good to support one of your own. Still thinking about one but I lease so......

Thanks for the support. Im waiting on a big shipment (have been for 2 weeks) from B&M right now. I hope to have it in a week or so (hopefully sooner!) and all my previous orders have actually ended up resellling out so as soon as I got those shipments, I turned right around, labeled all this shifters & shipped them all out to my customers & again, I was out!! So this time I ordered about 3 times as many (those better last!) E-mail me if you want one. 145.00USD.

Sure thing....didn't have my camera....but I have a scanner...SO, here ya go.....you really can get an inexpensive pair at autoparts stores that will do the job.....just remember....there are three kinds...INTERNAL.....EXTERNAL....AND Combination......I happen to get the COMBO's....and what they do is you can use them for BOTH internal and external snap rings, you NEED INTERNAL snap ring pliers for the shifter mod, OR the combination pliers ....look at the picture...the THUMBSCREW removes and there are TWO holes to use it in...by changeing it from one to the other it converts the pliers from internal to external. the TIPS, the very end of the pliers, the part that sticks into the holes in the snap ring itself need to be about 1/16" in diameter....hope this helps out.

B&M Shifter

It’s a pretty easy install just like DON M explained I have few pictures of the shifter installed. Gro Harlem has actual pics of the install as he help me install the shifter. Click the link in my signature. Their pretty simple installs just have patients with getting the snap ring off and pushing the new shifter down in the hole. We had so much trouble with pushing the new shifter in the whole that I was using a 2X4 and a hammer. BE CARFUL IF YOU ATTEMPTED THIS AS THE COUPLER HOLE IS HELD IN WITH PLASTIC STUDS THAT COULD BREAK VERY EASY. I never could get the new shifter in far enough to but the slip ring back in but I've had it on the car for a month now with no problems. I've competed in two Autox and drive the car every day no problems. I could not live with out it now it’s awesome. You'll need a set of ramps or a jack that lefts the car really high cause you have to crawl under the very middle of the car and be able to work.

Mitch gave me the hook up on the B&M shifter give him a shoot he'll take care of ya.

Biknman, did you do this recently? it sounds like you got the FIRST design shifter that B&M made....they have since come out with a newer design or REVISION to it ...... and the portion if the shifter that has the o-rings on it is shorter and will fit in the housing so that the oring and snap ring can be reinstalled with NO PROBLEM.....

AND....IF you are having to put more force that just PUSHING on the shifter to get it in....STOP! there is something wrong....there are ONLY o-rings on the fit.....the fit is very close...and you must push it in absolutely as straight as possible.....but do NOT beat on it....

the part number you want is B&M #45071 THIS one fits correctly with NO problem.

also if you go to the previous page...there is a link in a previous post of mine in THIS thread to the OTHER thread where this was all discussed before....there is also pictures there of the stock shifter laying next to the B&M unit....and a final before and after picture....

Hope you enjoy your new Mod.

Sir Nuke

I got the B&M from Mitch a Portege5online in February and installed it. We greased the hell out of it, even tried it without the o-rings just wouldn’t fit right but its in there and it isn't coming out any time soon. I didn’t break the coupler thanks to Gro Harlem who has already experienced this with his Pacesetter shifter install, which by the way sucks compared to the quality and fell of the B&M according to Gro Harlem. I'll have to dig out the box and see which B&M I got, if i still have it.

Yup just found the installtion sheet and its copywrite is 2001 for Part Number 45071.

Gro Harlem shifter

Gro Harlem did have problems with the Benzoil bushings for which I gave him my old OEM shifter. And somehow his coupler-mounting studs broke and the shifter fell though the floor. The Benzoil bushings just didn’t fit the Pacesetter right so there is all kinds of slop. We are going to try the Benzoil bushing out on the B&M one of these days to see if they work.

Re: Gro Harlem shifter

The Bronzoil bushings Corksport sells will only work with the stock or Pacesetter shift levers. The B&M shifter comes with it's own aluminum housing and doesn't use any additional bushings. That could be the problem with your fit. I did buy the earlier B&M part #45079 which is listed for the '92-'97 MX-3. I installed the shifter about a year and a half ago, so the part #45071 didn't exist at the time. My shifter fits and works fine, with the exception of the upper retaining snap ring. There was too much aluminum material at the top of the shifter to reuse the snap ring. The fit of the shifter housing is tight enough with the two O rings
even with white lithium grease that the shifter won't budge. In fact, to remove it, I think I'd have to get under the car and push it out.

I have the B&M #45071 shifter and I had the same fitment as you did. I could not get the snap ring back in either, but the shifter is in there and is not coming out, ever! As far as the function of the shifter its, "AWESOME BABY"!!!!

David, if you have part #45071 and you couldn't get the snap ring back in, something isn't right. It might never cause a problem, but just knowing that it should fit, if you're ever working on something else near there, I'd take a second look.
