Any Pro5's with Lightened Flywheel?

Thinking of getting a lightened flywheel installed, but don't know any places in vancouver or places to order one. What brands are good and how are the gains after it's installed. Does anyone with a P5 have a lightened flywheel installed? If so, how's the throttle/acceleration change due to the lighter rotating mass?

Thanks,
Noodles

i got one....got the clutch kit/flywheel from www.srmotorsport.com
after american conversion and installation it costed me about 2 grand...but it was worth it, got the dealer to install it thats why it costed so much.

you will really notice the acceleration in 1st and 2nd mostly

also noticed that my idle speed is 100rpm less witch is kind of crapy...on a side note, now when i turn on my A/C i hardly notice a performace drop with the car

2000 gRAnD!?

pricey..

what about JUST the flywheel? i don't need to change the clutch either right?

from what i heard you lose "off the line" acceleration, but once u're moving it revs faster but u lose highend because of the lightened flywheel u have less enertia..

someone want to enlighten me with the facts of a lightened flywheel? thankx

A lightened flywheel lets the engine rev faster, but also lets RPM's drop faster which canbe a performance killer. When shifting, if the RPM's drop out of the upper powerband you'll lose precious time trying to get the engine back up there before you have to shift again.

i think you would want to power shift this car to make it go anywhere considered 'fast.'

the stock flywheel on my pro5 is light enough for street...
almost too light.

Chris addressed this a few weeks ago...I will try to find the thread...

it will not kill performance whatsover just make the car more difficult to launch properly. It is true that the lightened flywheel will have less intertia, but this just makes it more difficult to launch the car smoothly, not make the car accelerate slower.

this is from the www.rr-racing.com site, which sells Fidanza flywheels for Protege's...

This is from a Probe GT, which has nearly identical gearing, but the stock flywheel weighs 23lbs. Not sure what a P5's stock is but I think it is close to that...

but this also gives you an idea of why it allows better accelaration in first and second gear.

Also what max mazda said is true, however if you shift fast enough the revs won't have time to drop out of the power band. At cruising speeds it has been noted that some notice the car slows faster once the throttle is lifted, but I don't know from experience.

yah, but i kinda worry how well the syncros are going to hold up if i keep shifting fast. i need the car to last me at least 2 years.

if you know how to rev match and heel/toe when shifting a lightened flywheel will work well...it does make launching the car a little harder (have to apply a little more gas than normally) b/c the rotational inertia is lowered but then once the clutch is engaged it will transfer more power to the driving wheels that would be lost spinning the heavier flywheel

When you guys say "launching" the car, do you mean on the street or drag racing? When I get the lightened flywheel, can I just expect to just slip the clutch a little more? Does that promote extra wear and tear significantly?
