Another header option for 2.0L engine.

Another header option for 2.0L engine.
Just thought I'd bring this topic up as there is another header choice available those of us with 2.0L engines.
Essential Speed is a Canadian speed shop. Over the last few years they have been building turbo applications for imports (one of our guys in the toprotege.com club is on his second version of their turbo).
He's also been offering a shorty style header for the last year or so (probably one of the best kept secrets) which retains the precat and has provisions for both o2 and egr.
Here's a looksie at the ceramic coated one:
Will have this one installed on my car shortly - will have dyno #'s to post in the upcoming weeks (my car is totally stock at the moment, so I'm curious to see what the #'s will return like...).
If you need to find out more about them, they're located on the web at www.essentialspeed.com (although, their web site is a touch on the light side regarding information).
Cheers,
dr_"daddy needs a new set of headers"_sarcasm.
P.S. Yes, some of 'waste' our money in keeping this car NA just 'cause we want to be different.

I'm not sure - given that I'm the guinea pig for this dyno test (he's never dynoed the thing before), he's giving me a deal on it (not sure what retail is). For some reason, I'm thinking that his price was in the $600CDN or about $445US (but I could be waaaaay off here)...
Feel free to hit 'em up though - Kevin is fairly helpful (if not stupidly busy) and should get back to you with exact pricing.

That sounds pretty good as far as pricing goes. I guess CARB#'s are out of the question if yours is the prototype. Do you know if they are going to try to be CARB approved. I think under SCCA rules (for Street Touring) Headers must be CARB approved, and must retain the catalytic converter.
Is this going to fit the 1.8 and the 2.0?
Keep us posted on dyno results. If you have a phone number for the shop please pass that along, as the website doesn't work for me.
Thanks,

Hey guys,
Just as an update, I'll be in the shop tomorrow, June 25, having the shorty installed and dynoed. They will perform a baseline first (car is totally stock) and then another after the install.
I'm hoping to be able to put up the scan of the dyno sometime shortly after that.
Cheers,

P.S. Not sure about CARB, as I'm not familiar with what that entails - but, these babies don't eliminate anything, therefore will pass both the sniffer and the visual inspections that we have up here in Canada (no visual in Ontario).
P.P.S. Phone #: 519-650-9520 (better to call around 5:30ish, ask for Kevin).

Yes very interested in seeing the dyno results also, have a b-day coming up here end of july and plan on having some extra cash to sink into my p5. headers, cams and pulley/clutch are the next items to go in, maybe some brembos also.

Hey guys,
Well, had my day with Essential Speed - great bunch of guys. Throughout the day there were guys dropping in and out of the shop with turbo questions, dreams and aspirations ( ) and Kevin and Ivan accomodated them all. I was like a kid in a candystore with all the turbo setups (there was another P5 there, and an older Nissan) and I even got to see what their cermaic coated turbo setup would look in my car as they used my car to test fit a turbo they're shipping to the U.S.
With regards to the shorty headers: well, as I had mentioned, I was the guinea pig for this design, and the results are that Essential Speed will not be offering this shorty anytime soon. Unfortunately, things didn't work out the way they had intended, and it is most likely that they will now go the route of a 4-2-1 header system, to get the maximum gains for those of us staying NA (naturally, with both the o2 and EGR bungs) and most bang for our $ (both US and CDN funds, of course).
Sorry to disappoint, but such is the nature of R&D.
