Alternator issues
My wife's car is making this funny sound. I take it to my father-in-laws house... we determine that the sound is coming from the alternator, took both belts off, sound went away, put the alt/water pump belt back on, sound came back... sounds like the bearings going bad. but, you can hear/feel anything while turning by hand... think i have this same type problem? Alternator
if so... rebuild or pick one up @ a junk yard?

rebuild would be cheaper and better I'd think if you knew of some place you trusted to do it. I know a new alt is $$$ and apparently so is a used one from a junkyard. I'd go for the rebuild.
My shop used to charge $75 for a rebuild and we outsourced it to a shop down the street that did them for us for $45.
