Alternator issues
My wife's car is making this funny sound. I take it to my father-in-laws house... we determine that the sound is coming from the alternator, took both belts off, sound went away, put the alt/water pump belt back on, sound came back... sounds like the bearings going bad. but, you can hear/feel anything while turning by hand... think i have this same type problem? Alternator
if so... rebuild or pick one up @ a junk yard? |
Rebuild. I don't really trust Genuine Junkyard Parts for electrical stuff.
Figured i would contact Mazmart - havent heard anything bad about them.
Mazmart - $75 - 1 year warranty - father-in-law is still seeing what one of his friends will rebuild it for.
Mazmart it!
rebuild would be cheaper and better I'd think if you knew of some place you trusted to do it. I know a new alt is $$$ and apparently so is a used one from a junkyard. I'd go for the rebuild.
My shop used to charge $75 for a rebuild and we outsourced it to a shop down the street that did them for us for $45. |
i'm supposed to call my FIL back during lunch, see how cheap his friend can do it... - at least the alt seems easy to get to :)
gonna get it rebuilt - $35 :)
what is this Mazmart you speak of?
Big junkyard in Atlanta - http://www.mazmart.com/ (not much on the website)

The respond pretty quick to email (i wasnt in a hurry enough to actually call)
