See.. my theory is this.. I am always into my engine.. so... its always suckin mass amounts of air.. so I'm sure it goes through there fast enough not to get that much of a temp increase!

Before I started this testing, I thought the same thing. But after seeing the results, the heat from the tubing seems to heat it up faster than I would have ever believed. This was evident with the insulation in place, it took MUCH longer for the temps to rise above the ambient temperature, although eventually it did happen. I have to admit, I didn't do a great job wrapping the pipe either, because I knew I wasn't leaving my CAI in place. If it was going to be permanent, I would have taken it all out, wrapped it really well and taped it with foil tape, etc.... and it probably would have worked a little better.

as long as it flows more air.. and has the opportunity to be cooler than normal.. that's a good thing for me. I am into the sound too, I know it might not provide drastic improvements, but I did note an increased fuel/gal ratio as well as a little more feel. So I'll just keep it there. Thanks for all your work on the testing though man, that was really cool of ya.

Here is a simplified version of the results so far. The numbers are the deviation from the ambient temperature. You can see that so far, the stock intake and the CAI have the exact same values by the time the air gets to the throttle body.

Temp at Filter Location
SRI
@40 +28
@70 +20
@idle +53

CAI
@40 -5
@70 -5
@idle +12

Air Temp Before TB
Stock, modified grill
@40 +7
@70 +5
@idle +14

Stock, airbox only
@40 +23
@70 +23
@idle +40

CAI
@40 +7
@70 +5
@idle +14

CAI insulated
@40 +4
@70 +3
@idle +8
