one o2 in one of the runners, the second in the downpipe "elbow" joint. this is after the precat, and ensures that the ONE AND ONLY cat is working properly.

Only the california emisions 1.6's have the two cats. The problem here is a good deal of the pros are california emiosions legal.
I bought mine in NJ and I still have that package on mine.
Does this mean if I remove the secondary cat I can still be NJ legal or are there actually difrents systems in place?
Only one cat needs to work properly I think.

the second cat does not FFECT THE sensors in any way. It's just a backup filter to clear the gas before it hits the atmosphere....removing the second cat will not throw a cel...but it may not pass a sniffer.

in any state, removing factory installed emissions equipment is ILLEGAL....wow, this has turned into quite the debate, huh...silly to debate facts though...3rd gen 1.6L Pro's had a single cat, EXCEPT the California legal models....all other 3rd gens have 2 cats

Anything to gain by removing the second cat? I don't really want any more noise, but an HP or two would be okay. In South Carolina we have NO-ZERO-NADA inspections of any sort. You don't even have to have tires on your rims if you can't afford them!
