Question Coolant temperature sensor

I will appreciate if some one can do me a favor and check what is the voltage at the coolant temperature sensor or the sensor resistance when the engine is at normal running temperature. I have a 95 1.5 protégé.

I have replace the sensor but the coolant temperature gauge is not working. The voltage at the sensor when the engine is normal running temperature is 4.5 volts.

Thanks

the books says that the resistance of the terminal of the engine mounted sensor at cold temp should be 2000-3000 ohms....when the engine is warmed up the resistance should be 200-400 ohms...hey im also trying to do this thing..the BOG PROBLEM IS TRYING TO LOCATE THE COOLANT TEMP SENSOR>>where did you find it? is it ok to send me a pic or a description on where it is located...my cars been doing weird thing when it gets hot so i thinkthis is the problem..thanks in advance..

If you are facing towards the engine form front of the car than the temperature gauge sensor is right under the distributor. I usually remove air filter housing to get better access to it.

I had to buy the sensor from the dealer for $34, which did not help. A temperature gauge sensor from 90 Toyota corolla will work too and its only $7.

Next thing I am going to check is for grounding problem.

hey Ron, i check and cant find it. Its the engine coolant temp sensor right? if you can post a pic it would be better or at least what i should be looking for. It show in my pint out that its a two wire connector to it with a blue/red and red/black color wires. i saw one close to the thermostat housing but has a three connector with three wires. my car is bene out for weeks cos of that thing. Ived taken the coolant of the vehicle already so i can bring the sensor to the dealership but when i went to the dealership with out the sensor they told me there like 3 or 4 different coolant temp sensor. I dunno if im at wrong or the guys but one things for sure i miss driving my 97 speed. Help..lol

peeps, i know theres already a talk on this but i want to se a pic of the sensor. Ron said its below the distributor but i cant find it. I have a 1.5L Z5 engine. ive been meaning to take that sensor out but i dont even know what the heck it look like. The pic on haynes is a different engine probably from a gen 1. thanks in advance.

The single wire sensor below the distributor is for the temperature gauge( this is where you can use sensor from Toyota). The two-wire sensor behind the distributor is for the radiator fan. There is another coolent temperature sensor but I don’t know where it is located.

You can check www.autozone.com they have component location on their website and also Mitchell service manuals are good. I found them in the library.

i check the haynes book at the back it says that the engine coolant temp sensor has three wires like what i expected it was the one ive been eyes for some time now. i got it off and it has a lower ohms at cold engine. suppose to be 2000 to 4000 i think. i saw the one wire thing but didnt know where it leads also im not sure ant the radiator thing..i was able to check on one company that makes things like this that it has the same product number as the toyota and not just the corolla. ill ring it to autozone and see if they have one for another car with cheaper price..ill keep you posted..thanks
