it doesent fit
the 2nd gens have a smaller engine bay

cant fit a v6
the BPT swap is a lot more difficult and time consuming than u think
talk to that pinoy guy
he has done it

and i mean,
its the best protege i am aware of
but 99% of people are not willing to dish that cash
and a lot of people say they are going to do the swap, not knowing what it entails

especially cause this dude had corksport do it..
itll be harder to find a shop that will have as much mazda knowledge other than aspec and corksport
and i dont think aspec even did a swap like that into a second gen

******* bastards! When I was there over the winter they said they WOULD, but it would be VERY difficult due to the lack of space. Ah well, despite the good work they do, there a bunch of unproffessional shade-tree mechanics...Oh well, they said theyd do a cutom turbo or a BPT swap though...but, my car is too white inside for the pigs to sit in so i guess ill just have to stare at Pats car

wait wait...

theyre unprofessional bastards??
do they do good work??

i was really considering giving them my car to do the 1.8L swap...
its probably the most straight forward swap on this car, but are they good??

or am i going to end up hating them, and being pissed off and being in the hole 3-4 grand?

NO NO NO! They DO excellant work, I have no argument for that...its just....I dont know. Its weird. They do all this great work like twin turbo KL's in 323s, yet, the shop is very ghetto. They own like 5 car compounds surronding the shop and have bits of this car and that car sitting on their lawns. You go inside, and have to step over all kinds of crap thats laying around and the tools arent even where they are supposed to be. Hell, I couldnt even tell who worked there and who was just 'working' there. You look over towards the back and there is so much oil on the ground you can litterly ice skate on the floor, yet, raised up high on a lift, is a 93 RX7 TT done right to the **** and probably worth about $45 000 CDN!!!
I would actually get work done there, especially swaps. When it comes to work quality, they are very meticulas at what they do. Work ETEQUIT on the other hand...
Hell, they dont even answer the phone, "Good afternoon, A-Spec", they just say "Hullo" or "Yeah"....thats what I meant about unproffessional!

Plus, I was half in the bag when I wrote the post and said 'Bastard'....LOL@ME!!!!

Absolutely! They will give you the price right upfront and it will be a straight 'out-the-door' price too! And if your there to help, you sometimes get an even better deal....

no credible shop ever needs a "deposit" up front. every should be due in the end when your car is done.

they need a deposit because they buy a protege...
then swap the motor from that into my car

and they need a deposit before they buy the other protege...
which is understandable

cause if i backed out, they would be stuck with a car....

why not just buy an engine str8 from CS and have a spec put it in for you? rather than having to have the buy a whole car.

a spec?
are u referring to a tech?

remember that i am in canada, i need a canadian shop to do the work
a-spec is like canadas corksport

but not as well known

the reason they said that they would just buy a car, is because they would be able to use everything from that car, motor mounts, motor, tranny, wiring, everything.....

then i assume they would probably put my old motor in the other car
i think.....

the good thing bout them buying a car is that i would be able to test drive it and check out the motor while it is in the other car
to make sure its good

They probably already have the motor/car kicking around down there. They have like 5 compounds with over 100 cars in it!
Also, if you REALLY want, they will import you a 'crated' motor just like what Corksport does (But for some reason, no JDM body parts).

For those of you who are interested, A-Spec's website is www.a-spec.ca
Be sure to check out their 323 wooping Type R asses!!!!
