Q about short shifters...

I'm have yet to install a short shifter, but do short shiters actually add a positive feel to the shift? Like it just popsinto gear on it's own.

THe reson I ask is that I was driving my friends Golf today and the shifting felt really smooth and solid. The gears ust poped in with very little force. Is it possible to replicate this type of shift in a Protege, or will I jsut have to live with what i have.

Thanks.

A shortshifter will require more force to shift, not less.

If you want the shifting to be "crisper", then just install the Kartboy shift bushings and leave the stock shifter in place.

A lot of people install both a shortshifter and those bushings (I am one of them).

Hrm, I just realized this is 2nd gen forum, so I am not sure if those bushing still fit...

a short shifter won't make it that much harder to shift, if at any at all.. The pacesetter is adjustable and one of the sweetest shortshifters out there and if used and adjusted within reason with the grease applied liberally you should have no problem shifting
and the reason why the VW shifts so smoothly is because it uses a cable shifter . not a realy rod linkage shifter like ours ...
