Intake

Heyhey proto people!

News: Upon greater inspection of my car, I found I have NGK Spark wires. They came with the car and I never read the label on them until now heh

More news: I got an OBX Short Ram air intake that fits 96-02 apparently. It never came with instructions so I'm gonna have my friend help me install it. Bought it off of ebay for $36

Protege 1.5L Performance the Cheap way!

Is that a Honda kit, or Mazda? By the way, My car came stock with NGK wires and sparks too. Thet are not the performance ones you might be thinking about it, though.

Well, It said it would fit a 96-02 prot but the problem is when i installed it today, the upper pipe that connects to the manifold was lacking a 2nd hole for the vaccuum tube. I got that fixed by taking the main tube and putting it in the vaccuum tube. Now I have to get an air bypass filter, which isnt much but now my car sounds so SHWEET. Alternatively I could have drilled a hole in the stainless steel which isnt a good idea, then put the vacuum through that.

BTW, I bought mine used so I dunno. The rest of my engine looks really stock but my bright blue NGK wires really stick out so I have a feeling they werent factory. Most factory type wires are the generic black right?

Ohh, ok. I didn't know that you bought the car used. I think that OBX is from a Honda. I went to their site and they had no intakes for Protege's at all.

BTW anyone knows what year Civic is it that has a similar intake with a 2nd gen pro? Thanks.

99-00 Si, you flip the intake over (as the civic intake is on the left). You will have to plug two of the holes and cut appox. 1.5" off the pipe closest to the mainfold and about 3" off the other end. I would recomend just buying an intake designed for a 90-94 Protege cause the only difference is the style of MAF censor...no big deal tho...

I dunno, they might have discontinued this intake or something. I cant find it either. Well, I'm not complaining. I only spent 36 for the intake itself and a bypass filter for 10 so all in all, I got great sound and a few more horseys for cheap. I will have pics soon. I'm not also very sure if I should leave it the way it is or not because it kinda is a little botched together because it wasnt appropriate for my car. When those pics come in I hope to recieve some insight if everything was done OK

ok it didn't work for post so here is the link:

1st pic:
The vacuum hose you mean is this? It's the difference between 2nd and 3rd gen intakes system.

2nd pic:
I would like the AEM if it would fit the hose without cutting too much and it doesn't put the any further than putting one right on the MAF with stock hose.

1st: OEM intake with the idle hose showed by the red arrow.

2nd: What I dream about but it's still not the perfect setup...
