Wtf?

Ok I read up on Gro's wire kit and decided to make my own.

In doing so I cut the wire to the right size and was bolting it in all the right places.

Well I finally got to the tranny ground, or what I thought was the tranny ground and when I disconnected the wire from the tranny it rubbed against the bolt from the ground and I saw sparks!

What the heck is that?

What are there sparks coming from a ground wire that is connected to a bolt on my tranny?

I thought it probably best to not gound this wire as it looked like it had power being fed to it.

Any ideas on what it could be?

I cant seem to post a pic so if anyone wants to see what IM talking about email me, or if someone is nice enough they might post it for me.

Thanks!
Donnie

ok I started by undoing the bolt pictured.

I did not disconnect the battery or anything. I have only added wires in places where I need them. So far I have changed out the engine block ground, and connected 2 grounds to the Intake Manifold. (2 for fun b/c I had extra wire and it had 2 bolts on the back)

I next then traced the negative battery cable from the terminal and saw that it looped around. It first goes to a mount on the firewall, then down into a wire casing where it looks like the wire for the tranny comes out and bolts to the tranny (the pic).

I unbolted the pictured hex nut. When I lifted it off of the tranny, I pulled it to the side safely away. I then began to make the ground wire to go directly from the bolt to the negative terminal. When I connected the orginal ground and the new wire I saw sparks. This concerned me.

Next I took of the new wire I installed and tried to put the old one back on. Every time the existing wire made contact, good sized sparks would show up. It wasnt like a residual charge either, I could sit there and it would spark everytime I connected it.

So I put it back on and left it alone. The engine idles fine. No strange noises, only a rattle on hard acceleration above 3k rpm. But I think that the rattling is the air box b/c 2 of the bolt holders are broken and it kinda moves a little.

Something odd I noticed, was that after it sparked, my radio time had to be set again. I have an alarm, and I noticed that if I disconnected the battery, the alarm would sound during reconnection. Happed when I put new terminals on the wires for the battery.

I looked and I have no major shorts any where that I can find. I have done alot of wiring on my car, but I always made sure I was well grounded. Everything that has power is well grounded, and not hot wires have been crossed.

hope this helps. Anyone know whats going on. If I need to I may make a short movie showing the sparks when its re-connected.

Lemme know!

Thanks for any help/info you guys have to offer.

I am thinking of just grounding out the wire anyways and seeing what happens.

Anyone think this might hurt or dammage my car in any way?

Please help...

he's closing the circut for the electrical system. i've noticed on several occasions if i disconnect my negative terminal then reconnect it, theres almost always some sparks flying. if he's running straight from the negative term he might be making a path of least resitence, since brand new wire would conduct a lot better then old corruding and crudey wire that the orginal ground was running on. hope you could understand would i wrote, i'm pretty tired.

Ok cool. I thought it might have been residual charge and I guess thats what it is.

How big of a difference is this going to make?

I know it wont make me have any more hp, not like rice stickers will.

I will hook it up tonite and let you guys know.

Thanks!
