Lightbulb Protege discussion

I thought i might try and get the 1st gen general discussion area flowing again, with maybe a little conversation on the car in general..or some questions...ehh..i feel stupid...

Just thought i might try..

Anyone know why these cars sit so low to the ground? even when they are stock?

or any idea why they are relativly loud stock?(mine was maybe b/c of the muffler that was on it before the After market 3A muffler)

Is there anyway possible to make the "Grill" fit with the hood and make it into a one pice unit?

I didn't think mine was low enough or loud enough stock so I threw on a flowmaster and dropped it 3 in. I must say though with the flowmaster these cars have a much deeper tone than that of the Hondas with mufflers.

I like the way the chassis is designed. Even dropped 3 inches I don't scrape on speed bumbs because the unibody doesn't sit too low.

I like my protege.

I believe the BPs are loud because of cam timing. With a relatively short rod ratio, most of the work is done in the first 90° of crank rotation. So the BPs exhaust valves open at 56° BBDC. Wheras a lot of Hondas exhaust valves open at around 40°. Which was why my car with 2.5" exhaust is way louder than a guy with an H22 and 2.5" exhaust.

edit: oh yeah. Because of the early exhaust valve opening, there's still plenty of 'explosion' going on, which means plenty of noise.
