I'm so tired of hearing "when I get this" and "when I get that". What does you're car do now?? Mid 17's?? Look at what you list for mods...with the exception of your tranny (which you probably think gives you 50hp) you're mods are all appearance, and your car still looks like ****. My **** is fast and it is show worthy.

In the end, you may get a 450hp motor (not likely) but you still will be driving a ****** protege family car.

what's more impressing...a sports car that is fast...or a car you put your heart into that's fast?

why be so closed minded?

Ford has sold 30980934093043093403090 Mustangs...you must think you have an exotic...

Qwikstang, dude, WTF? Why are you even on this board?

What, are you insecure about the decision you made to buy the stang? Huh? "Oh. Man. I can't believe this ****. Some frickin' a-holes are talking **** that they beat stangs? **** that ****! I'm going to go on there and talk 'em down! YEAH!@@#&$^@!#$ *flex*"

Dude. I know there are people in the racing story sections that are full of ****. There are those kinds of people all over the place.
Man... If I went to your board, I'd prolly find people that claim to beat a ******* C3 Corvette, a Lamborgini (sp?), or a ******* twin-turbo Porsche 929. There are and always will be people that don't know when to STFU. Right now, you're being one of them.

I don't frickin' care what you're trying to do here on the board. What? Are you trying to set some people straight? Why in this thread--go to the frickin' thread that is full of BS and start throwing **** there!

200hp in a Mazda is fast. Why? Because our cars don't weigh a lot. How much does your car weigh? You know what? I'm apart from those people that claim to have or brag about having a quick quarter mile. I like curves. You want to race? I'll race you in my DX (SOHC). You really want to? PM and I'll tell you when the next autocross event takes place here. You drive all the way down here, and we'll settle it. I'm more concerned with how a car handles and how agile the car is. Quite frankly, stock mustangs, unless it's an SVT, handle worth ****.

I despise frickin' people like you. Why don't you hold your own and sit back, man. Revel in other peoples' ignorance. Don't be a dumb ***.

I'm not trying to be an ***. I understand that all boards have BS. There just seems to be an awful lot in your racing stories section.

...ok...

1 you can't tell I have a performance exhaust at all.

2, I don't have a Cold Air Intake, I have a Forced Induction Intake.

3...Our other project car is a Firebird Forumla V8 5.7 liter, not a shitty as 4.8 liter.

4...How many BPT's here run faster than 15's Just about all of them?

5...How many stock protege's run 17.5's? Just about none of them? (try 16 or so)

6... stock V8 vs stock 4cyl isn't even a comparison....you wouldn't compare a base model V6 stang to a base model V10 viper would you? same thing.

7... Protege 5's aren't even what we're talking about...we're taking about 1st gen

8...I've driven both model mustangs, and I own a 1G protege, and I've raced against base model mustangs...have you driven a DOHC Protege? A Turbocharged Protege? A KL-ZE Protege?

9... and most importantly....Why would you come to a board just to talk ****?

Coming from a guy who owns two Firebird Formulas with V8s, and not a Mazda of any kind, I can honestly say that everything in this thread said about the Protege by the Protege owners is true from personal experience working on and researching Proteges.

I own two V8 cars and I don't have to be a whiny, self-righteous weiner, so why must you be?

I respect any car that's fast, and I'll tell you what, a first gen Pro weighs like 2 pounds, and a 5-speed variant, even a DX SOHC, will surprise you. Not saying it's blazing fast, but you're still comparing apples and oranges.

My car may blow away Loginology's 1/4 mile time at the moment, but I am also paying $8995 for my car. He got his for next to nothing.

Again I'll say, I respect any and all cars that have had the blood, sweat, and tears poured into it to make it fast, handle, and the like. Why does it matter? What's more impressive? A stock speed Mustang like you see 2 of on every block, or a Protege with a 200%+ speed increase over stock?

Oh, and Mustangs are to Handling as Yugos are to Luxury.

I went with the F-Body, so lucky for me I get the best of both worlds.

My bad. I'm done wit my whining. Good luck with all your rides.

Yea man, I might be biased a little but the 1st gen is a superior machine when compared to the heavy, slow P5 or the underpowered 2nd gen (DX and LX, anyway). Not sure about the 3rd gen since I've never driven one, but I think it's about the same as the 1st gen.

Also, Proteges aren't built for straight-line speed. (Not really Mazda's main focus with its cars....)

My '93 has 85k miles and is just starting to show its age.... Paint beginning to wear out, brittle plastic, and so on.... But I still wouldn't trade it for a brand-new Mustang. Part of the Protege's charm is that it's not the car you see on the road all the time... It's a little unique. When you do see one, you notice it and subconsciously rate it against your own.

Still, Cobras are nice....

Protoss, much respect to you and your buddies on this site. I didn't realize that the 1st gens had the stronger engine. I wouldn't doubt it because my p5 was a slug.

Good luck to all you guys who aren't BS'n the street racing stories. See ya on tha track!!!

Peace out!

All right everyone. We are going to learn what a GTR motor in a LX body can do against a stang. There is an 03 Cobra in my town that wants to run me. His is manual with a Saleen Intake and Borla Exhaust. I have a stock GTR motor that i'm installing Saturday. I'll be running him with the mods listed below. I'm not sure about if i'm going to win. Gotta give the Cobra props for it's torque rating. Anyways, it's just for fun. He doesn't care if he wins or loses, he did say that he'll have a new respect for Mazda's if I can keep up or if I win.

Adam
91 DOHC TURBO (GTR)

GTR motor swap with GTR ecu and harness, J-spec front end, 2 1/2 inch downpipe, hollow cat, 2 1/2 inch cat back with Focuz oval tip muffler, GTX front strut tie bar. Ractive rear upper tie bar, Sprint 2 inch drop, Tokico blues, American Racing 14 inch alloys wrapped with Bridgestone Potenza's. NGK plug wires, Denso Iridium plugs, K&N cone filter, modified P5 shift (shortened)

I'm really looking forward to hearing the results. Good luck, let us know the outcome. So what exactly makes the GTR motor different? What is the displacement? Do you have it turboed?

The GTR is a 1.8 DOHC engine with beefier internals and a ball bearing turbo. The turbo runs at 7psi and the power numbers are 210hp and ~180-190 ft/lb of torque at the crank.

I've got nothing against any car that is fast or looks good. Everyone has their own style so no car will really ever be "perfect" to everyone. As long as the person is cool about things it's all good. Even though I drive a Mazda, I don't hate on domestics or any other company.

Qwikstang

ill race you even with my stock 13" 175 tires. ive just started my project and i plan to hit 12's with it, but thers that thing like exterior looks that i wanna do first which sucks but is worth it at the end. are cars arent really that slow at all. people even hit 14's with all-motor which is pretty impressive with a 1.8l 4 banger. just because they dont have any re-sale value doesnt mean their not worth it, were just not sheep and follow everyone and go honda.

there are only 3000 GTR engines ever produced. they have stronger internals that the GTX and 220hp, out of a 1.8L stock is pretty impressive.
gtx does 220hp also easily. those numbers are just with stock 8psi. i run 14 psi and im sure i have like ~245hp.
