Are Nissans Better?

Theres all this hype in this forum about engine swaps and their extreme prices.

I have a '93 Nissan 240sx.

For an easy $2000 i can have the SR20DET engine, and installed.

For my pro to get the engine with 180 hp, installed, itd be bout 3-4g's...

Maybe this pro was a waste of my money...

Can't please them all. These protege's aren't the best car out there, but they are terrificly fun cars. Comparing it with a 240sx is not even close to relevant. Sedan vs. coupe, FWD vs. RWD.

A 93 240 prob cost 3500-4000 just to buy. A 92 dx protege can be bought for 1000 and a gtx motor can be swapped in for 2500-3000 . So how did u waste money u payed more for the 240 then u did for the protege and its prob around the same price to swap both cars . Im sure the 240 can be faster when u get into more serious upgrades but i think the protege is a cheap car to hook up...Jon

engine is 1500 alone, 300 to get it shipped, comes with tranny and eveything it needs.

And i got a mechanic that does me favors, so labor is free. Unless i do it myself, either way its free to get it put in.

You cant get a SR20DET swap AND have it installed for 2000...

On the other hand, you CAN get a BPT "running" for under 2000...

The quotes on this board are usually for a full stand alone, intercooled system capable of running 10+ lbs of boost.

You have a DX which complicates things, and adds to the price, but not by THAT much.
Around here i can easily find a 240 w/out an engine for bout 14-1500.

U get what u pay for. The 240 cost more to buy and hook up than the protege i would hope it was more powerfull. But if u upgrade the turbo and put a stand alone in a protege im sure it would be a good race. In my opinion i love the 240's if its a stick shift i would say mod that car and use ur protege for a daily driver . But remeber that the 240 is more expensive and u get what u pay for ...Jon

yeah, what they said. besides wouldnt it be better to whoop someones *** in a pro and just watch the jaws drop. everybody knows 240's are fast and can out drift any car out there but its always fun to be the four door underdogg in a race. Of course you could just take the easy way out and do the ever so common swap of the sr20.

The difference? A protege can still handle well.

The BPT is a less expensive engine. You can get it for about $1200 shipped, and then if you get the gtx ecu and harness (about $550 shipped) you can have a running turbo protege for under 2k (assuming you have the intercooler crap figured out.

Doesn't get much cheaper than that for any car. Even a honda B16a swap costs more than 2k
www.jspecauto.com usually got good prices... comes with tranny too....
