Unhappy Need help guys...

Okay let me tell you how my night went tonight... I have had some great moments followed by something very bad! First I'll give you the good news... first I raced a Thunderbird with a 4.6L V8. It was really nice... it had 18" chrome rims with side pipes. I raced him at about a 45 mph roll. I had 2 other people in my car and he had one. When we went i didn't downshift into second gear like I should have to get the turbo to spool up quicker, so he got a jump on me but soon I caught him and left him.

Then another guy with a '96 Mustang SVT Cobra wanted to race... I was like damn I'm gonna lose. He said he would let me get on his back bumper and start first then he would go as soon as I got to his front bumper. I had two other people in my car. We started at a 45mph roll... this time I shifted into second and just launched. Right as I pass him I hear his thunderous V8 come alive... thing is... he didn't catch up to me... I beat him pretty bad too!... no lie. I know people probably won't believe that but I mean I was as surprised at the moment as he was... he gave me props for that! He said next time we'll have to go from an even start. I will admit he was *slowly* gaining on me before I had to slow down for the tractor trailor in front of me.

Then on the last race I raced a turbocharged Talon. We did the same thing... 45mph roll on the interstate. Right as his passenger counted to three I left him steadily and got a really good distance from him... once again shocked . Btw I had two other people in the car. Then that's when disaster strikes... I hit about 110mph as I heard my engine pinging really bad... I know that I shouldn't have been racing with my timing being too advanced or whatever... and then the car just shut off and I begin to smell something. I pulled over and popped my hood. Everything seemed to look fairly normal except for how hot the motor was. I tryed to start it up and there was smoke pouring out of the side of the valve cover where I have a breather filter. I called up my dad to find out if it was okay to drive it home if it started. He said it would be okay as long as it just smokes from there. So then I head home and all of a sudden smokes POURS out of the exhaust and I know I am in trouble. I parked the car at a gas station and talked to some guys that were with me and they were pretty sure that I messed something up internally.

Well my friend had a jeep and a winch and towed me to a friends house. I was really glad I had guys there to help me out... including the dude in the Talon. Well the point of this whole post is to ask what you guys think I did to the car and what I need to do about it. I apologize for the long post I just need to get all this out. Thanks for taking the time to read this and I would appreciate any advice or comments.

Surprisingly it was normal. Most people seem to think I put a hole in my piston . I guess I won't be sure until we pull the motor apart. I know I was probably getting hot air in the motor because I don't have an intercooler yet. I did earn some major respect last night but now it sucks not to have a car.

Why are you running a turbo with no intercoller. I thought that was a must!?

I know you're pretty much right. Well I guess the reason would be I don't have the money right now. Braden told me I should be fine right now... but of course I've been taking a risk.

Sorry to hear about your car. Shouldn't you retard the timing though when boosted, not advance it? Perhaps you had a case of detonation?

ur pushing the car too hard w/ no intercooler. well....in my opinion i think u have a blown head gasket. when u said that smoke was coming out of ur tail pipe. and about the smoke coming out of the engine breather hmm.....that sound like a hole on the piston now is making blowby....but **** ! ur car is FASSSSTTTT tho !

You could have bought a used one on ebay from a car that comes w/turbo for pretty cheap. It may not have been pretty but would have done the job till you saved up for a nice FMIC.

Yea but you still need all the plumbing, that costs money too... m And since it would be pretty much custom, it would need custom piping.

You gotta pay to play...you shouldn't have put the engine in untill you had everytihng you needed. Why would you spend $1000 on an engine and risk blowing it up? Even if you were running it without an intercooler there's no way you should have been pushing it that hard...

That's like saying, hey I Can drive my car without a working raidiator untill I have the money to buy one.

Intercooler on ebay = $100

Greddy universal intercooler piping for DIY ~$150

Detonating your engine and having to replace a piston and rings = price less

Instead of being destructive I thought I'd be constructive. Once you get your problem repaired, spend some cash and get your intercooler setup. Here's the link:

eBay Starion Conquest FMIC

Intercooler Piping for $130.94

Better Fittings if you want more flexibility

IF you need an intercooler I Have an extra Front Mount IC that I can sell you for a good price (how does $40 + shipping sound?). It's not big by all means, but it'll still work well. I'll have to find it and take pics if you're interested. It came off a MX-6.
