Question K&N Air Filter/Bosch Sparkplugs

I have a 91 Protege 323 DX. I am planning on buying a universal K&N Drop in Air Filter and some Platinum Bosch Sparkplugs. One of my friends said that you can improve the airflow of the car by drilling some holes into the air filter (he's a mechanic). Anyone have experience with this or with Air Filters/Sparkplugs? I heard that Bosch is comparable to DENSO Iridium Sparkplugs but costs a lot less. Thanks.

Don't put holes in your air filter. That is a really stupid idea. Just get a cone filter and adapter off of ebay, they work fine. Bosch platinum plugs are decent, I still recommend NGKs.

I'm sure he meant drill holes in the air box. If you're bored go for it.

I went the whole way and just took the bottom of my airbox off and put a k&n drop in into it, i noticed improvment in throttle response so that is probably what he ment. But holes in the fiter are bad

whoops, responded to the other one. Please reply only to this one. here's what I wrote:

I don't know about the air filter, but drilling holes in it? That'll just let anything fly by into the engine...let's say... a leaf? That would be good for stuff.

but!! I can tell you, NGK coppers are the way to go... NOBODY has ever said anything good about the Bosch Platinums... they are not good with our car. Nor with Subarus, I wonder if they are good with any car?
