Hold light Blinking, car won't move....
Hi all!
I'm new to this board, found it while looking for info on a problem I'm having with my car. I'm in the middle of a road trip - drove 750 miles on day 1, didn't drive any on day 2, and on day 3 the car starts up and doesn't move when I hit the accelerator. The Hold Light keeps blinking on me.
I started with checking all fluids, and found the transaxle fluid to be very VERY low.. there's maybe just a drop or 2 on the dipstick. Ok, need to top it up. That's where my first question is. On an automatic 91 protogem where do I do that? The manual isn't ANY help at all. It says to check and top off if necessary, but doesn't tell me how to. Not through where the dipstick is I hope, that's a tiny hole and quite difficult to reach.
Next question - is this what's likely to becausing my hold light to blink? Or is this unrelated? I wanted to see if I could get it to drive by topping off and then taking it to a dealership. I'm 750 miles from home in each direction and fully loaded up since I was in the middle of moving from TX to PA.
Any advice for someone who's completly baffled?

Yeah, you need to top it off through the dipstick hole, I guess you need a funnel.
The flashing hold light indicates a transmission 'error'...so...connected? Probably.
Here is what you do to check the level. Have the car on a flat surface, parking brake, etc. Start the car, and run the lever up and down through all the gears. When you look at the dipstick, it should be between the two bottom notches (cold, and since you can't go anywhere you won't be able to check it warm). The bottom notch means low, and the upper (still from the lower 2) notch means full. It only takes about a pint to get it from low to full, so add slowly...
The pattern of the flashing hold light can sometimes tell which component the computer is detecting a fault in, but I don't have that list on hand. D'oh
