HLA's/LIFTERS/CAMS

ok I did search first...

I have a tapping noise that is a lil inconsistant but its all the time....I thought it was because I needed to change my oil, got it done today and it is still there...I read that some had the noise and thought it was the hla, Im not sure what those are....if it is what can I do....DYI/shop.....it is annoying, even if it would never hurt anything, I hate pulling up to a sticker tuned civic and have the sound of a monkey pounding metal with a hammer

thanks

Sean

try one of those products that silences engine noise, or quites valve train noise, eliminates smoke etc...i had the same exact noise, put that stuff in, and it was gone

it can be the injectors that are making this noise.
my pro had been ticking for ages, i tought for a while it was the lifter. but my tech checked it, and appered to be the injectors.

take a stetoscope and probe the valve cover and the injector, or other parts of your engine.

maybe I will try that, but I have heard fuel/injector pinging/tapping ans it sounds nothing like the loud *** tapping that I have been hearing, I will narrow it down eventually, hopefully still having a running engine

How hard is it to do that?

My '96 Miata did this a lot also. It is fairly common, at least in Miatas (same engine). Some cars have HLA's making noise upon startup for a couple of seconds, some until the motor oil warms up, some others when the car is run hard, some when it's time for an oil change, some never do it, some do it all the time. Some get fixed by heavier oil, some get fixed with lighter oil. In any case, it does not seem to hurt the engine at all.

i had the same noise on my pro. i switched to syntec oil and started using the oem mazda filter. noise went away. it did come back though the other day, only because it's been 3k since my last oil change. it was weird, i saw that i went over the 3k mark since my last change. the next time i started my car the noise was there. almost like a signal to change the oil.
