Angry lifters are knocking

I just had the head shaved on the engine (92 DX 5 speed), this is the second time doing this.
the lifters are ticking as if the oil pump has went south, I asked the mechanic about this ticking (2 days already of ticking) and he told me that the lifters in a few days will automatically adjust and the noise will go away, HOW TRUE IS THIS, I do trust him.
If this is a sign of the engine going bad, then if someone is selling a motor for this Protege, please let me know, just in case you are wondering it would be for a 92 Dx SOHC 5 speed manual

Thanx for your help

Do you guys know if my SOHC engine from a car with an automatic transmission will fit his 5-speed car? Is Westchester in NY?

I don't mind losing the ECU along with the engine.

FYI---- My lifters are fixed, someone bent them, thats why they were ticking. The mechanic replaced them w/brand new ones, the car is running lovely now.
Just in case anyone was interested in the outcome.

THANX
