Question Heat Shields?

Ive seen alot of proteges who have done the intake modd to their cars and 80% of them have had heat shields of some sort on them, i was wondering if this helps any, b/c sometimes my intake and filter are really hot and i was wondering if it affected performance?

Of course a heatshield would help keep the heat out. Go for it.
