The Great Flood Of '02, Can I Fight Back?

We've been getting a whole heck of a lot of rain here in Indiana lately, and I'm starting to get a little tired of it. Everytime I drive through a puddle of considerable size the "charge" light on my dash comes on. I've basically decided myself that somehow water is splashing up onto the alternator, and causing me to lose my charge for a short time. The light only stays on for about 1-2 secs. so it doesn't really bother me, I'm just thinking it's probably not that good for the alternator to be getting drenched all the time.

Do you guys think I am I right in my assumption? Could I possibly design some kind of shield to put on the underside of the bumper, or anywhere underneath the alt. that would protect it from these puddles?

By the way....it looks like it could rain again here....
