God damn mazda...

Why the **** did they make the alternator so ******* impossible to get out/put in? They put it all the way in the back and bottom of the god damn car. Now today, While taking it out, the ****** piece of **** snapped off a wire from a wire or tube leading to the fuel rail while I was pulling it out. WHAT THE ****!!!!!!!!!!! I'd like to meet the designer and ream him a new *******. If I had a digital cam I'd take pictures but I don't. So now I gotta take it to the dealership. edit: I can't take it to the dealership. I CANT DRIVE IT THERE. ****.

i dont know about the clearance under the hood of the protege but on my mx3 with a lx motor i have more clearance to take it out from the top of the car.

if needs be you can bypass most of the solonoids and have a functioning car.. wont function right though.. you can also check out junk yards... usually a good sorce of cheap parts.. might get it for 5$..

You might have changed your alternator about 10 times but you had experience. Do you remember the first time? I've changed mine like what, 0 times. I went over the repair manual aplenty, and took out what was supposed to come out but there would always be something in the way-something I didnt wanna **** with, so I tried to squeeze the alternator through and something snaps, which means more time, more money. I took my time, trying to figure out if there was anything the manual left out. Do I take it out through the bottom of the car? do I disconnect any hoses to get it to pass through? I'm not a mechanic but I've done jobs like this on other cars and it was in no comparison as to how hard it is to do on the protege.

last I checked, all your posts are arrogant moronic complaints because you're foolish...

Do you wanna come and change out my alternator? If I'm complaining, it's for insight on what I can do or how I could do it to make it easier for me. I'm not asking for your opinion on my posts, and I didn't tell you to go check everything I posted. I'm not the one on this board with how many thousand posts, 5,000? what the ****? within a two year period? Do you get out much? It's weird, considering you're supposedly a ******* car freak, so YOU go out and design something better. Then I'll stop complaining. 'til then just mind your own business.

he actually used to be a mod on this site, so i imagin that most of his post were to tell people to serch and not double post as well as giving very usefull info, you should thank that guy

i appriciate him being here and sharing what he knows with us, makes my life easier

granted the protege does have a difficult place to work with the altenator but still the first time i took it out it was turn this way turn that way to get it out, just gotta be easy man

him calling me foolish wasn't very useful info. That really pissed me off. [******]
And I got the idea of the twisting and turning thing, but tall dude like me? That things pretty heavy, it's in an awkward spot and so was the position of the car. I had to take it out standing on a curb. Pretty hard not to get it cought on something and not notice it and just snap it right outta place. Now that I have gotten it out, It'll be easier to put back in, given the knowledge of removing it, just do the removal in reverse. That's no problem now. The problem is that friggin solenoid thing. I'm pretty sure that's what it is now. I'm about to just say screw it, just leave it as it is and pray nothing happens.

eh, ignore jesse, he doesn't like arrogant ******
peace

edit: also, since i'm not a complete *******, pull the negative terminal off, pull your vacuum hose and solenoid bracket, disconnect the wiring harnesses on your alternator, remove mounting bolt and tensioner bolt, turn sideways and drop down to the side of the axle.. it works, might take a while, just jack the car up normally and set the jackstands as high as they go... there really is no good way to get the alternator out bud.

Dude just chill out, **** happens to everyone. You're more likely to get USEFULL information if you just breathe and count to ten before you post. People on here don't like to deal with ******** (not calling you one, just chill)and after a while no one will want to help you out if you have a serious question.

I've also replaced my alternator at least 10 times. About the third time i broke the soleniod, well the part that the hose slides over, and have had no problems. It might have decreased performance, but the car runswithout problems.....It's been like that for about 8 months now still no problems.

Oh, and even though Jesse can sometimes act like an ******* back he really does have alot of USEFULL information if you go about asking him in the right way.

<thought>hmmm.....maybe Jesse and taimishu will become great friends, and do everyone a favor by engineering a better way to place the alternator....</thought>

edit: i'm not trying to be a dick to anyone here so... no hard feelings??

Ok, I got the job done in about 15 - 25 minutes. Took the 2 broken pieces to the dealership and she said it would cost about 60 and some change. I was like screw that, so I bought some super glue and glued the vacuum hose back onto the 'noid. Worked like a charm. Now, I have another problem. I think the new alternator doesn't like me. I noticed that when I'm driving, theres a slight flicker in my headlights and dash lights. Not so bad that its noticeable, but if you really stare at it you can tell. It goes away when the car is completely stopped. Did I set the tensioner too tight? B/C I tested the alt and the battery and they were both gravy. what gives?
