Gas Pedal depressing not smooth

not sure if this is normal, but when i depress my gas pedal, it doesn't really go down smoothly all the way down. it more just goes down little by little; i guess the gas pedal feels like its kinda tight, and when i apply little force, it wont go, and when i press it more, it'll go down some, then stop, then go down more and stop... what can i do to make the gas pedal smoother?

Anyone know if this might be a problem with his throttle cable and housing? I dont really have a clue but this is all I can come up with.

I have a pro 1991 and gas pedal runs very smooth, my father has an 323HB 1997 and the gas pedal isn't so smooth; but you can try to change the cable with the hose (there are 2 in 1), change the cable is not hard and is not expensive.

Is there a housing around the throttle cable? Is it like the housing on a bicycle shift cable? Just curious.

Thanks, Brad.

Same problem here on the '96, I am planning on replacing the throttle cable and expect this grabby feeling to go away.

Thumbs up Sticky throttle cable/bushing

Dude... take the easy way first... disconnect the throttle cable from the throttle body, then get yourself some spray called: Release All. Spray this SLOWLY into the cable held in a verticle position, allowing the cable to absorb the fluid. THis should take around 5 minutes. It will not take very much to see if this is where the problem lies.

While you have the cable off... take hold of the throttle mechanism and move it as if the cable were opening and closing the throttlebody; if this is sticky, it could be time to see about a bushing replacement? (Try a short blast of the Release All at the pivot/shaft point to see if this will fix the problem.

Throttle mechanism is smooth so the problem should be with the cable. I will try to lube and see if it helps.
