Does anyone have an idea about the most possible HP a 1st Generation Protege can have? Can a Pro have a NOS system installed? I know a GTX engine swap can increase HP a lot, but does anyone have any possible idea on the most HP? Can a Pro have under a 5.5 second 0-60 time?

 

The highest BP motor I know of is 399whp. Of course that's in a miata, but theoretically that's possible in a protege LX. That's with the miata's 9.5:1 compression pistons though, otherwise, stock internals! I'm beginning to think the GTX or GTR swap isn't too great of an idea, rather, just build your turbo system. and bty, the ONLY upgrades he has made to the *block* internally is replace the stock RODS and PISTONS......replace your stock rods and pistons and you have a motor that can handle some serious 'powa even the stock rods and pistons are good for over 200 *reliable* hp

 

Yeah, Dave Lauzier's MX-3 was running a BPT with close to or slightly over 600hp, but he kept snapping drifeshafts so he could never run it to its full potential. He's building a 3rd Gen now and it is going to be absolutely sick. Sub-10 second tube frame. WOW. The turbo is almost as big as a basketball in diameter.
