clutch Q

Does a slipping clutch necessarily mean it needs to be replaced? Or is there an adjuster? I'm not familiar with hydraulic clutches, I used to have an old CRX and if the clutch didn't work properly, I would go under the hood and twist the adjuster **** and be on my way.
The clutch in my Protege slips under hard acceleration and quick shifting. If I'm stoplight racing I have to ease into the gas after shifting or my clutch slips. I can't even get a chirp out of second gear.

Any input is appreciated.

I had the same exact problem with my clutch. and i asked my father (an experienced mechanic) the same question. we tried to adjust it and it worked for a while (1 week max). then slipped again. we did this three times. and finally he said just get it replaced. So it's in the shop today. it will be out today or tomorrow depending on how long it takes to reserface the flywheel. when it comes out I will post the outcome. so far it has cost me 145 for clutch w/tax (autozone) and 220 for labor (including flywheel). hope that helped.

Just adjust the clutch! Look under the dash and press the clutch pedal. You will see a rod going thru the floor, follow that rod to where it joins the assembly, untighten the bolt and turn the rod using a 12 or 10 mm. I don't remember which direction to turn it, adjust so the pedal moves to the aft of the car, you can figure that out. Just remember when you adjust it to leave about an inch of slack in the pedal.
