Wonder if anyone can help. I have only been in Chicago for a year, and I need to have the a/c worked on. Its a 92 DX, very low miles, 43,500, and I need to keep it till I can afford a place with a parking space!! Can anyone advise me of a good repair shop in or around the windy city?
see, i'd be terrified to do that, first of all, everybody that works with refridgerants for a living go through bullshit classes to be certified to handle the **** just cause of the environmental damage it can do. but the biggest thing for me, i'd have to buy a clean out kit, the conversion kit, and then the refridgerant, which i was unable to find a full charging canister on jc whitney... where do they have that listed? i mainly want to get my ac working without wasting the $300 bucks as well as i will need it desperately if we have the summer this year like we did this past... it was ****** miserable, not a single day did it go under 90 degrees in the afternoon for 3 weeks straight, and the only break was a rainy bitch of a day at 86 degrees. so what exactly did you do marc?

My system is already empty, so it will be easier. Im not sure what itl cost to get it drained and flushed, but r-12 and r-134 are not supposed to mix. If you have a mechanic friend see if he can hook you up! You can get the full kit at walmart or auto zone, they also sell extra refridgerant and oil charge etc.
Umm, mine was empty.. a friend of mine told me, that it would do no damage to just charge it, I did just that and it worked fine.
MY kit came with 3 bottles, which was plenty, I used 2 and had a spare.. a week later, I totalled the car lol
A/C works on my new car
