adding keyless entry possible for DX?

i have a protege DX ( duh ) but anyway. i was wonderin if i could add a keyless entry system.. i DO NOT have power locks...

saw some kits here for a good price

I have put keyless entry on several brands of cars. The keyless entry kits are pretty generic in that they are made to be able to be used with many different cars. Because there is more than one way to wire something (two ways to skin a cat, so to speak), they will tell you what a particular car maker generally uses, show you how to test/verify that is the way it is on your car, and then show you how to hook their system up to your car. Having a voltmeter and a general knowledge of electricity also helps, as does an electrical schematic for your car - it really saves times knowing what wire to look for instead of having to test a dozen or so wires in a bundle. I got my schematics at my local library from 'Motors' electrical schematics - they are so much better than the Chilton's or Haynes back of the book stuff.

I have put in $30 Valiant systems from JC Whitney that are still working after several years use. Over this past Christmas break I put in a remote car starter from Bulldog that I wish I had never bought. Hope all this helps.

Sorry, but that last post of mine assumed you had power locks already. You can buy power locks in the aftermarket, but you will increase your workload a bunch!

OMG DUDE, THANK YOU. I have been looking for that site for like the last 2 weeks, couldnt remember it for crap. You can do that im doing, lol, buy the power locks and then there kit for keyless entry.

ur welcome for the site. yeah. i mite but i wonder how hard it would be to install. plus i hate that tar crap in our doors. it already gets on the door sills and gets on my clothes and crap already..... whut more if i opened the dam thing lol

actually... dont need keyless entry.... i just realized that with power doorlocks, it has this one feature:

Lock/unlock the driver's door or front passenger's door, the rest of the doors will follow

so if i had that i'd be straight. yeahhhh

that is, if you where to get all the LX parts. The LX has what is called (a cheap ***) semi-central locking system. There is no actual actuator in the drivers door, just a switch that tells the other doors what to do. All the other doors have actuators, which is why even on an LX, if you want keyless entry, you need to add an actuator to the drivers door.

If you wanted that same feature with aftermarket powerlocks, you'd need a 5-wire actuator in the drivers door and regular 2-wire actuators in all the other doors.

I have an Enforcer Keyless system, good quality basic system $35+$5 shipping or i have a top end Viper Keyless entry system $85+$5 shipping. Email or PM me for more details on features. Both brand new in the boxes.

Hey, wouldn't it work with one of those 'central locking' jobs (i.e., my escort wagon) to get a 2-door keyless system, put one actuator in the drivers door to unlock all four doors, and a second one in the rear, to just unlock the rear hatch/trunk? I'm kinda thinking of doing this pretty soon, especially since my locks are starting to wear out a little.. key doesn't want to work all the time, which is a PITA when it's raining out.

sure, thats totally possible. I don't know if the wagon has an physical **** like the doors, but if it does, an actuator can be used. If it's just a handle on the outside of the hatch, then a solenoid might be needed. It all depends on how the lock/latch/handle system works.

There is an actual lock **** just like in the doors for the wagon hatch. The escorts that aren't the wagon don't have them though. The wagon lucks out again! bigger brakes, better suspension, and now less expensive keyless!
