AC Motor

My AC don't work. So what I did was cut the belt running from my alternator to my AC motor. Did this give me any horse? And what if I just take out my whole AC (radiator, hoses, motor, etc.) and lighten up my front end, will this help me any?

yes it will, but probably not as much as you'd think. This is an old-school hotrodder trick. I use to keep a spare AC belt and some wrenches in mcar for the race track...when I get to the track take the belt off when I leave put it back on.

It's not a lot of power, but every little bit helps. What you should do is remove every AC componant from your car weigh it all and then using the hp/weight ratio for your car see what you gained just in weight savings.

no there is a second rib on the alternator pulley. I think he means the alternator was helping to spin the AC so he removed one of the two belts......i hope!

Yes, I removed the second belt that runs the AC motor. What is the hp- weight loss ratio, anybody know?

the weight/hp ratio is pretty simple. You take your vehicle weight and divide it by your actual horsepower. This should give you a ratio of (something like) 16lbs/1hp....What this means is that by shedding 16lbs you've basically free'd up 1 hp. If you drop 45lbs of dead weight then it would have the effect of adding 3hp.
