Unhappy '93 Protege LX Questions

I'm hoping someone can give me some insight into what's happening with my '93 Protege. I'll list the issues:

1. When I downshift or the engine starts revving down, I hear a clicking sound coming from my glove box area. If I come to a stop, my engine sometimes stalls, and sometimes it almost stalls then comes back up to normal idle. It's a sporadic problem -- doesn't always occur. Is there an electrical contact that needs cleaning? I'm baffled.

2. When I come to a stop, a cloud of blue smoke drifts past me. I think I'm burning oil because I have to refill it every 2-3 weeks. Is there a leakage problem, or is oil-burning common in this car? Thoughts?

3. Exhaust manifold makes funny noises at the point it connects to the engine. I just had that whole thing replaced, but I'm still hearing noises. Are exhaust problems common in this car? If so, how do I fix?

Thanks in advance for any help diagnosing these issues.

Sorry, I wasn't clear.......

Does the Check Engine Light in the instrument panel stay illuminated
after the car has been started?

This will tell us if an engine trouble code has been set in
the memory of the Powertrain Control Module. If it has,
I would advise you to take your car to your local Autozone or
Advance store where they can read the code for free.
This code will tell them what engine control device is
defective. Replacement of this part may fix your first problem.

The blue smoke likely indicates a bigger problem. Excessive oil entering the
combustion chamber…. ring failure.

How many miles does it have, and are you sure the smoke was blue, and
not black, or even white?

Best Regards

Not nessesarily. it could be just a leaky valve seal.
