92 LX replacing Axles..DS Stuck in Tranny!
Man oh man what a job! I got everything apart...spindles, rotors, calipers...etc and even got the Passenger side axle completely out along with the intermidiate shaft...no problems. BUT the drivers side axle came apart when I tugged on it to remove it and now the inner CV joint/axle is stuck in the tranny!!! I have tried and tried to pry it out and even tried to bang it out from the passenger side hole but no cigar! I really dont have a really long screwdriver to get a good whack at it from the passennger side but i did get a couple decent hits and the damn thing will not budge!
Anyone out there with some suggestions? I'm at a loss and the car is in pieces
heeeeeeellllpppp!

This happened to a friend with an Escort GT. The tranny died, which is why he was taking it out. The tranny is sitting on the floor with the tripod joint still attached. The FSM says use a bar to pry it apart. Other than using some kind of wedge, I don't know how you'd get it out. Although, the same frined showed me how to get the other one out using a long extension and a 4lb sledge hammer. You put one end of the extention on the joint, and thump the other end with the sledge...but not too hard, or you may break something.
YMMV of course.

welp...im still stuck! Ive tried the extension trick with sledge hammer....no dice. I broke a prybar..... I bought an $80 inner cv joint removal tool...no dice.....
I had no idea I was going to get myself into this much trouble! I'm about to say forget it and finisht the passenger side and have it towed to a shop. I know they are going to sock it to me but heck...im already out more than it would have cost to have it done. I found both balljoints and tie rod ends shot and bought those as well. That plus the cv joints and new radiator...tools have me back about $700 and the car still is sitting on the jack stands.

someone correct me if this BAD idea:
how bout starting the car in neutral; put it in 4th or 5th gear and slooooowly letting the clutch out so that the axle turns *some*. THEN try getting it out...maybe rotating it will put it in a position that makes it easier to remove???? just be careful as i'm not sure how fast it may spin.....
an idea, at least.
