Cool 92 LX Project...Where are the guru's ??

Hey there..I'm new to this forum..so first off I'll just say whats up? I've always wanted a protege, and had a B13 4 door Sentra with every little bolt on possible. Got bored, and went back to Rabbits. Still have the Rabbit, but picked up this 92 for nothing..Here's what I got:
92 Protege LX Auto...
Needs: Tranny, drivers fender, front bumper, grille.

I don't wanna deal with the auto, so I'd like to swap out for a manual. I work for an import tuning/swap shop, so parts might not be bad to find. I want to really just go for a BP-ZET but they don't have the FWD tranny's it seems. Where should I start, and what will I need besides :
BP-ZET, 5 spd, ECU, clutch, flywheel, pedal assembly, possibly a starter?

Sorry for the long newbie post, just gettin started the right way hopefully... And I have the funds to start everything right now..so expect something clean and quick in a few months.

Thanx,
Greyson

Welcome to the site! I really can't offer any advice, but I think you will really like the car once it's together and running!!

Ok, well to simplify it, what do I need to swap from auto ---> maunal? Will any 323/protege tranny work? I can get a 1.6 323 5 spd, but is it worth it? My parts list:

pedal cluster
5 spd tranny
flywheel
clutch kit
starter (? not sure)
axels (?)
ECU (?)

I want the car to run without problems, and I plan on going to the BPT very soon after a little more research is done ( Turbo the BP-DE, or go with a full BP-ZET) So if you could please help me figure out what else is needed for the 5spd switch, it would be greatly appreciated

BTW: Is there a LSD tranny out there?

Welcome to the board. As i see it you have 3 good choices . You can either buy a turbo and manifold and hook it up to your stock motor, Buy a BPT (GTX) motor and swap it in. Or you can buy a KL-ZE motor (2.5 V6) and swap it in. Sounds like your protege needs some work. Hows the motor running?

yeah but if he just bolts the turbo onto the regular bp---wouldn't it run about the same amount of dough as it would be to get the engine and swap it?.......if there is a turbo that runs cheaper than doing the whole swap--hook me up--let me know....thnks

Hows the BP running now? GOod question I will be bringing the car into my shop this week. I picked the car up on a trade for some cheap VW suspension. It's needing some body work/paint. THe interior isn't bad, but the drivers door panel is worn. Nothing a good cleaning can't take care of. As I've searched for BP-T info I haven't found the answers I want. I basically want to do a simple swap, and what items I'll need. Ok simple isn't really what I meant, but after almost going through an SR20DET on a 1.6 sentra 4 door, simple for the protege BP-T sounds ok. Anyways... First thing is seeing how the original BP runs. Going from there, 5 spd conversion. That might be kinda spendy, but I figure if I need the BP-T ECU to make a turbo work, than that saves the stock manual ECU I'd already need. Tranny's seem to run about $150, and I hope I can find a pedal cluster for cheap as well. Misc hardware, new clutch kit, and a used flywheel should do the trick. As soon as the engine is going, I'd like to put some GC's, and Tokicos on with a rear sway. I have some clean 15" wheels and some white paint set away for it already.

THats gettin kinda long... where should I start looking for the turbo mani/charger/ecu/DP for the swap to work? Also, will I need injectors?

Thanx for the info...keep it comin

Also...looking to have a fun boosted daily driver. 1/4 mile times aren't important to me, and I would like to be able to take it auto-xing every once in awhile. But if I have to race I'd like to know it can hold it's ground with some competition in a straight line. Figuring a BP with Turbo fitted, running stock engine management, good exhaust/intake, and maybe a boost controler @ 10-14 psi if possible, what times would I be looking at?

You can get a Vj-20 turbo and mainfold for 500. You will need some fuel upgrades that will prob run u 400-500. a bpt ecu is about 450 but i think u can use the stock ecu for low boost. Or you can get a BP-T motor for around 1200 shipped with a vj-20 turbo on it with 330cc? injectors and around 36k miles. You can get the motor from www.barelylegaltransplants.com browse around he also has a swap guide of what u will need to do this. You can hit 13's with little problems. Goodluck
