Transmisson effed up

ok.. i was leaving work, it just started raining and i was going up a hill. the tires lost traction and the rpms jump, so i shift into 2nd and it makes a huge grinding noise, and slips out, the rpms go back down, and i cant get it into 2nd it just slips out, and the shifter moves so hard now, i cant get it in any gear to make it move...

is my transmisson dead??

if it is, how much do junkyards usually run for one?

thanks
Colin

How does the clutch fell? Maybe the slave cylinder in the clutch could be bad. Maybe the syncros in the tramsmission cound be shot???? Can you get into any gears of just first and second? Has it been shifting okay. These are a couple things I can think of now????

the clutch has about 9,000 miles on it, and it feels strong still

i cant get it into 1st at all, 2nd goes in hard put slips out when i try to take off, it goes into 3rd and stays there, but i cant really get going in third gear, im not sure about 4th 5th or reverse they are really hard to get into as well. when in neutral it moves alright but lots of force to get into a gear.

Alli can tell you is to NOT try to force it into any gear i'm not too sure what could be the problem but it sounds like it could just be a clip from the linkage to the tranny. My brothers geo did this and we could only p[ut it into 1st gear. Hopefully that is what the problem is it only cost 15 bucks and a shop did it. And they gave him an extra clip incase it did it again.

That sounds like it could be the problem. Something to do with the linkage and hopefully it is not expensive to get fixed.

the local shop where i had my car towed told me that my transmisson is gone....

they didnt tell me how much it would cost, (they would need to do some research)

has anybody had experience with this?? and know how much it would cost for a new, or rebuilt/referbished one?

thanks
Colin

sounds as if you could have bent a shift fork as well... usually its not a shift linkage piece that is bad when it takes excessive force to put it into a gear. could be other things though

I'd say its a shift fork which usually means you can rebuild the transmission or do the latter of replacing the transmission with one out of junkyard. I'd do the junkyard one personally. Look at the price of another tranny here. www.car-part.com
