throttle body cleaner

my buddy , he has a 93 grand am, he just used a product that supposedly cleans out your throttle body, he "says" he shaved 2.8 seconds off his race time, and has noticed a serious low end torque difference , but he also said it burns all through the intake mainfold , through the cat and burns out all excess garbage that has collected there through the exhaust.
now does this work or what boyos??

...

There's no way he took almost 3 seconds off his quarter mile by using carb cleaner, unless his engine was gunked up to the point where it could barely breathe.

Getting your throttle body bored wouldn't even take off 3 seconds.

lmao

3 tenths isn't even that believable, let alone near 3 seconds.

I wish it were that easy. Then I wouldn't have to swap my engine, bore it out, get headers and a cat-back, custom-tune a PROM, and bolt on a supercharger to drop 3 seconds, I could just spray carb cleaner in my throttle body.

Is this guy talking about auto-x or drag? Cus' there's no way in hell if he's talking about 3 seconds off of his 1/4 mile time. I don't really know much about auto-x so............??

Nah, I dunno what the stuff he's talking about is.. but I have a hole in my intake tube, so I just spray some carb cleaner in that and close the hole back up.. It helped my idle for a while.. but my car's heading to ford tomorrow morning..
