SOHC and DOHC heads

Are the parts from the SOHC and DOHC interchangable? If not, does anyone know where I can get valves, valve springs, lifters, etc.?

Well, I think the valve stems in the SOHC (16-valve of course) are a bit longer than those in the DOHC. I'm not possitive.

You can purchase the parts from the dealer, but the last time I was messing with a head, the prices were like ~35 for one valve and 40-something for the other one. I forget whether the exhaust or intake valve was more than the other.

You can always go to a parts yard and search for a head with good springs/valves. A head should run you about $40 at a parts yard.

I'm in the process of installing a DOHC head on my SOHC engine. The head came with a car that I paid 750$CAN for (including intake manifold, exhaust manifold, ECU and all other parts needed for the swap...). The price for the head alone in mediocre condition at the scrapyard was 200$ (for the head ONLY). My head had to be re-built (400$) and the parts to install it (head gasket, timing belt, etc.) came to 260$. There probably would have been ways for me to get all this done cheaper, but I got it all done in a week and my engine will be brand new (All the head's internals are new or re-finished). It cost me more than I expected, but hopefully it will all turn out right in the end. I'll keep you guy informed. THis whole thing will definately go to show that it's always cheaper to do it yourself....
