Which motor?

I desperatly want to do a motor swap but have some questions. I dont really want to spend all the money to do the turbo swap. Im wondering how much it would cost to get a DOHC motor. And i was wondering how much more it would take to turbo that.

turbo , isn't as cheap as it looks at times.

The regular BP dohc will cost you about 350 ,
you can use your current tranny if it's a 5 speed. but better to get the lx tranny axles, and so forth
not to mention the wireharness and ECU ...
The turbo will be a whole next story to be honest with you

If I go the turbo route for my 323, I expect to spend around $3-4k. It adds up quick

* = I know is required

*Engine
*Tranny
*Performance Clutch
*Ecu (GTX ecu or Haltec)
*Wiring Harness
*Fuel Pump
*Axels
*Intercooler (I wouldn't consider NOT running an IC)
*IC Plumbing
*3" downpipe
*3" exhaust
*Aything else from the engine not included with the engine itself (waterpump, belts, sensors, alternator, etc.)
*Gauges (Boost, A/F, EGT)
Halfshafts
CV-joints, Mine are shot
Big Brake kit of some sort, along with rear disc conversion

And I know I'm missing a lot of ****, but I can't remember right now.

well, once you get there, you'll realize that there is a whole other series of issues to deal with. learn how a turob system works so you have a good knowledge base on what every one is talking about, then read this thread in depth http://www.protegeclub.com/forum/sho...threadid=25733 beachnut planned on a bp build up but just went the bpt route. there are so many if, ands or buts about this whole topic, and many have succeeded in turboing an otherwise naturally aspirated automobile. most likely, i ever got 3 to 4 thousand bucks to invest in my car, i'd probably sell it for a newer model lx (95 or 96) and spend any left over cash on minor mods.. intake and exhuast namely. but even if i had the 3 to 4 grand to throw into my car, and i had some reason to supe this thing up, i'd throw it in the shop for some body work and a paint job, rims and suspension kit, and then possibly a eurospec headlight conversion. but i don't have the money so it will never happen. the BIGGEST KEY that i think a couple of us may ignore sometimes, if you start with a 2,000 dollar car, dump 4,000 into it, it's still a 2,000 dollar car. no body is going to pay you an additional 400 for putting axles in your car..however, somebody may pay you 400 extra cause you have a body kit on the car or something like that, something that makes your 2,000 dollar car that much more special than another 2,000 dollar car. it's a balance and a passion, just watch what you're getting into.
peace
