jerky transmissio shifting question.

is it just me or does the 1st gen automatic protege's shifting kinda unsmooth?? um i got a new tranny put on and i only got 10k on it. its suggested u change every 30k anyway. well shifting from 1st to 2nd around 2500 is jerky, the next 2 are okay, they jerk sometimes. the last shift fromo 3rd to 4th is ok. the jerking from 1st to 2nd was worse with the A/C on for some reason.

i read somewhere on the 1st gen automatics arent all that. please give me some info if u all know anything. thanks

jerky shifting

Mine's also like that going from 1st to 2nd, it jumps/jerks. Don't know what's going on..Could be getting old..but I have it checked everytime I go for a tune up. It just got cleansed in April as well. Also, mine's not great in finding the right gear either. Eg. When going up a hill, it takes too long to shift down to a lower gear.

see i read a review where it says this about the protege's tranny

On the downside, the Protege's automatic transmission does not shift all that well, and tends to reduce both the car's performance and fuel economy slightly. Despite that, acceleration and economy are fairly impressive, especially on Protege LX models.

my car does that too, when it shifts gears it jerks ... i just give it less gas and it helps.... then once its out of first gear, dont have a problem with it .... Im just light on the accelerator until it gets out of first...

My car had 110800 miles on it when i bought it... This is my first car (im 17 .... drving fever at first - didnt care... lol ) and i think i already got $4200 out of it.... i already put 8000 miles on 'er within 5 months... I already hit on a curb (it was raining and shitty headlights dont do anything), it was about 6 inches high.... figure what that did..... hehe

get yellow fog lights. anything yellowish will help in rain or bad weather.

my auto tranny makes the exact same jerky motion/vibration out of 1st gear. i had the tranny rebuilt about 4,000 miles ago, yet it did it before and it still does it. one shop told me that my car was too low and it was causing the axles to bind, so in order to fix the problem, i would have to raise my car a bit. i raised it, and the problem still exists. check out this link from one of the other sections http://www.protegeclub.com/forum/sho...&threadid=9813 wil suggested that the problem was motor mounts. i'm inclined to that theory becuz my grandma's car was doing the exact same thing, and they diagnosed the problem as worn out motor mounts. i haven't gotten a chance to get the motor mounts checked out though.

yeah mine does the same as well shifting from 1st to 2nd. I always thought it was just the age and the mileage of the car. I have '94 DX which has a bit under 190,000 miles. But after reading all these... I'm starting to think it's just one of those idiosyncrasies that every car has that can never be undone. Don't take my word for it though.. heh

i too had my tranny rebuilt at 102000 miles and it shifted crappy from 1-2 before and after the rebuild. i went to a fancy shmancy transmission shop and they fooled around with the valve body and 1-2 synchros (i think?) but either way it shifts smoooooth now in the low rpms', but it still jerks at anything higher than 4k when i stomp the pedal .

You would be better off buying another 92' 323 with a five speed
it'll probaly be cheaper that way ?

yeah it would be a lot cheaper. wwell like someone said before, just gas lightly at first until ur out of first gear, then drive normal. it really shouldnt be bad at all. and it jerks really bad when the A/C is on
