hmm i also had a question bout an AWD protege.. could we drop in like a KL-ZE and have a custom transmission built from www.levelten.com? there trannies are built to help transfer power to the ground more efficiently. now AWD, swap and a good tranny.. hmmmm

im curious tell me bout it..

Let's see. Besides the engine, wiring harness and computer... the AWD tranny is also a known weak spot. But since most GTX engines imported come with AWD trannies attached, which are otherwise useless (if you don't have a 4wd Protege)... Makes a nice combination. 180 hp and the traction to use it.

They are different trannies. The US version is no where near as robust as the GTX version, which also has a different torque split (35/65 F/R vs 50/50 for the US). The rear diff should hold up to the stress (it's probably not the same), but the GTX trans should bolt up to the existing drivetrain (from what I've read). Probably not the easiest swap in the world, but easier than trying to convert a fwd to awd.
