Air box mod vs PRM???
Hey i'm new to the forum but couldn't find any info on this exact question...A friend of mine recommended that i just take a dremel and cut out the bottom of my stock airbox. How would this combined with a K&N drop in compare to the performance of a PRM CAI?? If so, is the difference worth the price??
btw i have a 91 LX
Thanks

I've got Cone filters on both of my Pro's.. (LX, DX) each one with adapter cost about $20-$25... they are like $10 on ebay right now...
Easy install, sounds better, runs better in my opinion...
like Jedwards said everyones opinion is different..

I cut my air box and removed all of the plastic tubes. and that did help a little and gave a nice little sound under the hood i just got my cone and adapter and while I really dont like the adapter I got a plastic POS the cone really makes a nice diff. in sound and a enough extra power where you can feel it a little.BTW does anyone know where I can a metal adapter.

You guys can always go the custom route. Here's a fairly interesting and informative thread that can get you started. IMO titocruzsd did an excellent job with his setup.

I have the PRM intake, and yes the price is steep especially compared to a cone filter. But as Jesse already said, you can't compare it that way, it's like apples and oranges. It's off my car right now because MazdaspeedWest (Darryl) is making all the custom intake piping for the other side of the VAF. I have an RX-7 VAF waiting to install as well after he's done. Since I have everything back to stock right now, I had a baseline dyno run = 110whp. Once the custom piping/RX-7 VAF/PRM intake is installed I'll be getting another dyno to see how much of an improvement is made. Btw, when I did have the PRM on the first time I noticed a really nice gain, and that was with the stock VAF and intake pipe. Darryl also agrees with me; he currently has my PRM on his car while he's fabbing up the pipework.
