ACT Clutch Pedal Adjustment

So I just got my 285ft/lbs ACT Clutch from Corksport installed today.
I knew to expect a heavier pedal, but now it almost feels like the old mechanical clutch I used to drive. I see why the stainless clutch line was required.
I'm sure I'll get used to the heavy pedal.
The only thing is, when I got the car back, the clutch pedal engages just slightly off the carpet.
I noticed the rod that connects the pedal to the hydraulics had an adjustment. I loosened the locknut and shortened the rod length towards the firewall to bring the pedal engagement up slightly. Then tightened the locknut back up.
My question is: Now that it seems the free play of the clutch pedal is non existent, is there any problems with this? I was thinking it might be similar to riding the clutch?

The other problem is, I read that I should allow 300-400 miles of city style driving to properly break in the clutch. How gentle do you have to be? Granny-like or can I explore a little boost now and again during this time?

Rick

Well i can not answer the question but i have the same question that you have. it is not as bad as what i think you are saying but i almost have to push it all the way to the floor and get it to disengage or the other way around.

Besides the clutch question that we but have i would really like to see a video of your car. I was thinking about going with the turbo because damm you have a turbo. but i don't want to have to watch what i am doing to the boost and causing other things to happen becasue i want to go to fast so i think that i am just going to do the KL-ZE swap the second that school is out this year. Well sorry that i can not answer the question but i would like it alot if you had like a video that we all could see.

thx

For the adjustment be carefull you need a little free play at the end of the course for the bearing to release completly if you dont let one the bearing his always going to touch the pressure plate and that's going to wear the bearing and the pressure plate for nothing. Has for the break in just drive normally for two or three week and than you will be able to floor it. The symptom of a clucht that did not break in correctly his a shaky start on first gear which his where you are going to fell it the more. Learned it the hard way changed my clutch on my scort and did a burn out just out of the garage. Had to reface the flywheel the week after.

there are LOTS of threads over on the www.miataforum.com about this; but i'm too lazy to post one do a search in the 'powerforum' for ACT and you'll find them.

in one of the recent threads about this, one guy was able to install a new - somewhat differently designed - slave cylinder for a 99 Miata on his 94? and that solved the problem....admittedly our pro trans/clutch is somewhat different from the miata's but you may get some ideas over there.

because of that thread i got the idea to (one of these days) find out if the slave cylinder for the new g-series in the 3rd gen 1)has a different design and yet 2)would bolt to OUR g-series.

if the design is right for the situation AND it fits - it just may be a potential solution to getting the 1.6 Miata flywheel to work.....

I have the same clutch and my dad adjusted it to where it engages closer to the top of the pedal. I enjoy it a lot! I don't really have any free play in mine either... which I have gotten used to and like. As for the heavier pedal... you will get used to that soon too. It's weird, after driving my car for a while, then getting back into a normal car its strange to have a stock clutch again. I wasn't too smooth with the my mom's Mustang the other day .
