94 protege, shaking when accelerating, fuel system?

15miles shy of 160k!

I am pround of this old buddy. But this spring was really not his
lucky season. Got hit twice in the parking lot, then I drove it off road w/ high speed and ruined one of its wheel(it was an accident) :-(

from last week, when I press gas HEAViLY to accelerate or to go uphill, it is like shaking and hesitating, and the idle speed is unstable( also happens when waiting for traffice light w/ brake pressed). But when giving gas slowly, it can still run as smooth as b4.

I am thinking of adding a valvoline fuel sys cleaner. What do you guys think? too dirty in the fuel system?

newbie for cars basically, thanks very much!

Could be bad plug wires

I had to replace the stock wires on my 92 lx every five years. They would arc and the car would buck like a mule. Its the first thing I replaced when the car acted funny the second time. Also chech you plugs and make sure they are not fouled.

take it from me, your problem will only get worse. take your poor protege to a shop and have them run a computer diagnostics code check on it to find out what's wrong with the engine, most likely, with the symptoms that you're describing, it's your mass air flow sensor also known as MAF. bout 120 bucks is the price for the part aftermarket, dealership is a shitload more. either that, or you could have a leak in your air intake hose... both of these produce exact and similar systems to what you're having. i've replaced both, i've had the same exact problem your talking about, if i had to bank on it, i'd say your mass air flow sensor bit the dust. hope this helps you, and if you need further help, just im me on aol...demoninvictus. take care and i hope you get this problem fixed before you wear out your brakes, lol.
peace

I just recently had the same problem, checked all the wires,a dded fuel system cleaner, etc etc... everything I could think of was looked at..

Went on for a couple weeks, I was stopped ahd the car running, and heard "click click" one of the plug wires was arcing out on the Valve Cover..

So it wasn't doing it when I checked the first time it was hesitating, but the last time I did it was, so go figure change the plug wires and see how it goes...

Sounds similar to my problem. the MAF went out on my 2003 MP5.
Auto Zone can scan your car. My check engine light was on and they hooked up my car to their computer and told me the MAF was the problem.

My hard part is I have been fighting with MAZDA for over two weeks. They still have my car collecting dust on the back lot.

I am getting tired of the FORD FOCUS loaner car.

Sorry I'll get off my soap box now.

IF you have a check engine light that comes on, check with AUTO ZONE to scan it for free.

Later,
Bill

I'd personally say its probably electrical. But then again I've seen on some cars it being the head gasket. Check to see if you've burned any oil lately.

If your engine light comes on, you can check it yourself.
