Ok guys, I may be getting a 323 to put the GTX in instead of my protege. What transmission comes in the 323? Is it stronger than the DX? LEt me know....thanks!

The 323 transmission is the weakest tranny. I personally know because I blew mine up with the stock motor. If your going to do a GTX swap you need to use the LX tranny.

Thanks.

Is there anything else I'll need to know about swapping into the 323 VS swapping into a Protege?

Well, you're going to need a lot of parts from the LX to make the engine happy. Have you seen braden's swap guide?

http://webpages.charter.net/sector32...ide/wdi323.htm

That's for the 323, not your Pro

You need to be easy with the caps..
And if you did a search you would see that there are many conversations about the G VS F trannies... You would know the G is a stronger tranny , but the F has better Gear ratios and is moderatly strong ...
As with any Protege motor swap or 323 motor swap , you will need all the parts to make the tranny work ..
So what do you do?
Take all the parts out the protege and put it in the 323 .. You will basically need everything that is in the protege tranny and clutch side. Plus hydrolics(if 323 is an auto ) to get it working ...
By know I would think that you have a FSM or Chilton or some type of manual that tells you what is different between the two transmissions.
You have to research these things .. and don't rush it ..
Later and have fun

And by looking at what Braden posted, finding all that stuff is a breeze, aside from the engine(gtx/gtr) . Any LX protege in the junkyard will have them.....

I delete the post you're talking about...I didn't actually post that, someone jumped on my comp while I was away from my desk. Sorry about that.

I know there have been many conversations about the G VS F...that's why I asked WHICH was in the 323...and that question was already answered (thanks guys!).

I've reasearched the swap since November. On a protege, never a 323 though...which is why I ask for any TIPS which may help since I'm not longer doing it in a protege vs. 323.

Sorry bout the caps, I do that for emphasis cause I'm too lazy to type the italics characters

It looks like the biggest problem will be the IC and custom plumbing for it. Hopefully you'll be able to find a place to hook you up with that for not a whole lot... The end result will definately be worth it, though

You're planning on getting standalone engine management or the GTX ecu, right?

Yep, HALTEC is the next step after getting the tranny in. We're doing our own piping...we plan on putting the GTX replica front end on it to make some room. the IC we have is BIG...may need to downgrade just to get it to fit...
