Question 1990 Protege DX

Hey all,
I bought the Protege new and it has been the best car I have had.. never let me down and after 12yrs and 250km doesnt owe me a penny!

First hiccup just started yesterday.. the car has the electronic downshift (hold light on the dash). well yesterday the hold light started to constantly flash.. just curious as what this is indicating.
The car still seems to run but I havent pushed it since the light started.
Any help is appreicated.
tk.

i dont really know what it means when it flashes but this is what happened to me.

when my sister gave me the car, the transmission was slipping and the protege being my first compact car, it was fun to drive so i kept playing with the hold button using it for braking and stuff. (ford bronco wont any fun =P dam gas guzzler) then one n ight i tried it and it didnt work and the hold button started blinking. the shifting didnt respond when i pressed the button and the HOLD on the dashboard jus kept flashing. in about a week i had to have my transmission replaced....

maybe someone else can explain that in full detail.... just wanted to let u kno that this happened to be before.

same thing here, i fried my transmission about a year ago and had it rebuilt, since then its never been the same though, it runs through the gears fine except for 1st to 2nd, and i have to floor it to force it to shift into second when i first start it up, soon after it shifts fine, occasionally my hold light will flash too, i push the damn thing a couple of times and put it in park n D n stuff just to mix it up and it eventually goes away...dont know if its anything bad though cuz the car runs the same weather its flashing or not!

From the workshop manual (proper english not required):

Hold indicator flashes if a malfunction occurs of any of components as follows:
  • Vehicle Speed Sensor
  • Throttle Sensor
  • Pulse generator
  • Solenoid valves (1-2, 2-3, 3-4, or lockup)
  • Shift signal (in EC-AT control unit)
