117whp with just the RX7 meter???

an ERDT member said his friends 91 Pro DOHC 5spd with 95k made 117hp on the dyno with just the RX7 meter....?? honestly that doesn't *seem* possible but depending on the dyno used and other factors...
http://pub51.ezboard.com/funitedesco...icID=244.topic
what do you think?

bty, is the consensus for a custom intake pipe diameter still 2.5"? not 3"??

yep, not bad at all for a BP...for that matter, i didn't see any reason not to believe him...after all its not *his* car.
just a note on my dyno - my car with 195K dynoed at 99hp with the catback last jan - i read recently on an MR2 forum that Dyno Dynamics dynamometers (which is what i was on) measure about 15% less than a typical Dynojet....if thats right then my car would be @ 114hp! but that just doesn't make sense(or shouldn't) in view of Darryl's mods AND results on a Dynojet...

that's at the crank; a chassis dyno measures at the *wheels*...you lose some power through the drivetrain.

You also have no idea what kind of dyno it was, if it's SAE corrected for temp, humidity, and air pressure.

My friend's SE-R made 129.9 hp @6500 and 120.2 ft.lbs. @4800. Not completely bone stock. He did have a K&N cone filter in place of the stock air box.

Braden (Turboge) got 115 hp from his Protege stock, except for a '96+ exhaust manifold and 3" cat-free exhaust (left over from his turbo days). With his Haltech and MAF, he got 121 hp. Who knows if he lost some with the sewer pipe he uses for an exhaust.

Most Protege's should be around 105-108 stock.

Heres the link to my dyno sheet for last weekend.

With the haltech installed we had a few problems getting the fuel curve dialed in... after about 45 mins we had figured out it wasn't the fuel curve but the VICS timing. We found that it only needs to be activated for a short time to maintain power and keep it through the entire powerband.

We ended up bringing the torque curve down to 4000 instead of 4750 like stock.. this helped out acceleration a lot with my 3" exhaust. At no point in the curves did we lose any torque or hp, and we still have some room for more power with timing up top.

The link is Available Here in PDF format.

Stock as in my car with the stock ecu, and my "stock" 3" exhaust.

We managed to move the torque curve back to "stock" and picked up some as well.

did i call that or what dude! 120whp was my guess and you hit 121whp....Nice!

if only an ECU swap was legal in STS

and that tunnel of a sewer pipe is louder than mine...<gulp>

Braden, you missed a killer weekend at Buttonwillow.....

I know I know.... I wanted to go but the whole long *** drive and me wanting to drive the entire course like a demon would have ruined it...

My car is getting a GTX turbo shortly and an aluminum dash and door skins... Almost decent looking!!

Calculations say 15.0-15.3. I haven't run it yet due to some stumbles on the low end and some carbon monoxide problems in the cabin.. Going to try and plug some holes tonight when we finish the intercooler kit.

You should take it up to LACR before you put the turbo on. See how close you can get Of course, at LACR that would be 15.5-15.8. I know I want to go out (once the temp drops a little) to see what a fresh engine is worth. And maybe run against Will (and Darryl?) a few times.

just say when, i'll try to make it out there.

I'd say Will and i would be very close, but he has the upper hand with the blueprinted engine, i still need to do all my seals, oil leaks and i lose pressure. Me against you, that would also be close, you'd have the 1st half, but my top end make take you the 2nd half.... but Braden would probably take all, as he has the most hp and the least weight.....i dunno, it will be a total blast anyway. Maybe i can convince Jenni to bring up the Jetta as well, would like to know what it'll do totally stock.

I can go on Wed the 23rd if its goin on, I'm on vacation that week and have nothing scheduled for that night...... but...... I may be turbo by then.... so who knows what will happen I think my bottom end sucks and I will have to spin on launch to keep up with you guys...... but when I wind it out to 7500 and shift now it really gets going on speed... I can hit the traps at the top of 3rd now.

When the turbo goes on I am going to be replacing the head with a p&p and 3 angle head and cleaning my pistons of over 180k of debris... I will give you guys a 3 second head start as I pass you running 12's =)
