1.8 sohc to 1.8 dohc

I have a 91 egt and want a 90 pro with dohc but cant find one so how hard is it to change over from sohc to dohc and what parts beside the engine have to go along has anybody done it? my egt already has a mazda engine in it last time i changed it it had mazda valvecovers on it and the only thing i had to use from my original motor was the intake along with the tb.

I was afraid of that! but It really does not sem like I have to change the tranny and axles, they seem identical, I thought maybe the harness and cpu, motor mounts seem the same also, after all the only difference is the head. I read somewhere the sohc and dohc bottom end is the same and i already seen the difference between the ford and mazda dohc, now I want to go from sohc to dohc on a mazda.

the axles are not the same between the SOHC and DOHC...because of the different 'gearboxes' (trannys ) that Jesse mentioned. but yes the EGT and Pro DOHC DO use the same trans/axles.

however... depending on my brain's thinking right now ........you may be able to JUST swap the DOHC motor in AND bolt it up to the SOHC trans...
