Honestly for the money you'd be a lot better off buying something already RWD, either an early rx7 or you could try it out with a miata. I think trying to do the RWD conversion would end up costing too much to be practical.

thanks i was leaning away from it.the research is killing me. do i understand that a bpt will drop right in,fairly straight forward? my 94' dx has a stock bp,and a 5-speed so i could build it up,what other swaps are feasible? i will be doing the work at home,so the most power and ease of swap are important.

you might look at putting the engine from a mazdaspeed protege in. the thing with a protege is youll have to beef up the drivetrain if you want to make big power, but it should handle a speed protege (turbo 2.0) fine

As far as I know there was only one trim for the Mazdaspeed protege, it was just a base protege motor with a turbo setup pushing 6 or 7 lbs of boost. Made 174 horsepower. speed protege was 02, 03 only. same tranny as a regular 02, 03 protege, 5 speed manual but with a Limited slip

i have a 2007 mazda 3, which needs a new transmission (its a four speed automatic 2.0 liter) i found a used one from a 2008 mazda 3, and the owner claims that it fits 07-09 mazda 3's. before i buy it i wanted to make sure it would in fact fit. also, if anyone has any tips on how to pull the tranny out and possibly rebuild it they would be much appreciated. thank you all very much

If you have a 94 DX, the putting in any engine from any RWD car will be a nightmare. Plus the 13B-RE is probably not the best choice if you decide (against all odds) to go rotary...they're kinda rare. A 13bt from an S4 T2 is much easier to come by & has more potential anyway.

The Mazdaspeed has a beefier tranny, a heavier clutch, an LSD, bigger swaybars, different brakes...etc etc etc. It's much more than just a turbo kit and an lsd.

Elhefa: BPT it. The BP-T engine was the one Mazda used in its GTR rally car, and it'll drop right into your 1st gen. It'll put out more power than the Mazdaspeed motor will, and it'll be correct for the time/body style for your car. Win Win.

ICE, No worries, it'll fit.
